Some people on both sides of the debate need affirmation from other people's agreement to feel secure in their own belief. For those people, anyone not affirming their view upsets their insecurity. Again, this applies to some people on both sides of pretty much any emotional or serious topic.

Most I talk to get upset when I tell them no I don't approve of your lifestyle, there is nothing to be proud about having a mental illness/defect . But that dose not come up often. .

I’m afraid you are mistaken there Keith. Jews, Hindus, Muslim, and most other religions are not atheists. An atheist denies the existence of any God. Not simply a disagreement about who/what God is.

Maybe its because the endless proselytizing gets old. Maybe folks arguing about their beliefs does too. Maybe they are just trying to prove how much better they are than anyone who disagrees.
