Just watched this video on beavers, how they are fixing the landscape. It’s apparent this is where the environment slits are getting the facts they believe. Thought it was odd that they keep showing pictures of nutria mixed in with pictures of beaver. From my understanding the nutria do more damage than good for a wetland. Hope you all have a great day.

Did you find that on the FB “Beaver Coexistence Forum”? That one is full of misinformation. However, don’t doubt that beavers are beneficial to about any place where they are native, and we should all support reintroduction if they are absent from native range somewhere. That is one point I think we can all agree on. More beavers is better I say, and if they become a problem then we (trappers) are one of the solutions.

But that said, the folks on that FB forum are mostly wide eyed weirdos, and they are happy to spread misinformation - like young of the year beavers cant survive the winter without parents, trapping does not work to stop beaver damage (seriously, they say that!), and flow devices are cheaper than lethal control and never need maintenance (which can be true in certain conditions and locations, but not in my region). They block and ban anyone who dares to take issue with those lies, so I have actually had customers find that forum and lost business, and I can not do much to engage with them and correct the misinformation. All the while they say “we are the ones with the science on our side, and we are the experts”. Meanwhile many of their articles feature nutria and they don’t know the difference. Had one customer who insisted that a flow device was the answer because the “experts” on facebook said so. 3 years and thousands of wasted dollars later they called me back to remove the beavers because the flow device did not solve the problem, back to square one with a bunch of money down the drain. Down the drain, see what I did there??

There is a new FB group called “Beaver Management Information and Resources” that allows any discussion as long as it is respectful, so I encourage everyone to check that out.
