I had a beaver break a trigger wire in a catch today on my 330. I backed out the screw and slid two pieces of heavy gauge wire into the slots and tightened down the screw. I did not make the complete loop around the screw. Appears it would strengthen it, but is that loop necessary?

Thanks

It's all good as long as the wire doesn't fall out.

Yep. I’ve jammed a nail in there when I had nothing out in the field. Works like a charm.

1/16 stainless filler wire works great and won’t rot out. Any weld shop should have it.

WCS sells Stainless Steel replacement triggers. That is what I use to repair and replace all my triggers in my comstock traps.

I'll mention this fix because it worked for me as a young poor trapper...lol...try coat hanger wire as a temporary fix.
Use a ton of it on my 220s and 330s back when I started.

I replace the factory triggers when they go south with Terminator triggers (stainless steel) and forget about them.

And my thoughts on using coat hangers......in an emergency, maybe. Or coat hangers from 20+ years ago might have been made of better steel than they are today. My experience is that coat hangers today are very brittle and break very easily. Just the opposite of the characteristics needed for good trigger wires.
