When skinning otter, do you cut from the pad on the back foot to the vent or just in front of the vent. Which is preferred?

This quote is from FHA's Pelt Handling Manual concerning otter-

That will work but when skinning out the tail It's a lot easier to start from the tip end and open to the vent.
Another tip when skinning out the tail. Is once you have the cut from end to end. Go down about halfway on the tail and open it up so the skin is off the tail bone. Skin it out so you can get one hand around the hide and the other hand around tail bone. Then just pull the hide and the bone and the skin will come right off the bone. No need for a tail puller.
