Thanks, SW! I’m getting the impression this could be more expensive than I wanted, but hydraulic seems the way to go

You would be better off working a deal with the logger for some of the butt logs and hire a portable mill to cut the logs. Safety wise, you don't seem to have the experience to log or cut lumber on a mill. Both can injure and kill you.

I ran a Lucas circle mill for a year. Great for large logs, kind of a pain for small stuff. Had a contract to cut western red cedar. Was cutting over 1500 feet a day by myself. You leave the log on the ground and chock it in position so a hydraulic loader isn’t necessary. Best day was with two of my sons helping. We cut 8000 feet of nearly clear old growth Doug fir.

And do you use different blades for each respective category?

I really don’t travel much besides to the brothers house to mill up logs for him. Everyone I have sawed logs for is usually a farmer and they have no problem bringing logs to my place to saw. It’s also more handy for me with three small kids at home to keep the mill at home and saw after they go to bed and before they wake up! I’m a lineman for work so I bring poles home from work and saw those up for hay shed frames and outside use lumber because they smell like treatment. I have just used the timberking blades so far and plan on trying some wood mizer blades in the near future but I use the same blades for hard and soft wood but there’s probably better options out there

I have a bandmill , with hydraulics . I found that to sell lumber , you also needed a kiln. I am selling mostly to hobby , and not much quantity. . More a hobby to me as well . I have a Nyle 50 kiln , their smallest , does 1000 feet in about 2 weeks. If you buy logs get good ones, don' t buy or sell crap. With pine it is lower value , so cut for quality not quantity. Wide , clear, thicker , some live edge . Will make you more, in the long run. I found that good quality hardwoods , were always in demand , but again top quality. .Live edge slabs seem to be popular, now if you can develop , a market old243
