Theres a big one under the shelter here with a web made. The old folks always said if you see your name spelled in that center web you were gonna die soon. I showed it to my son the other day

We called them banana spiders years ago.
Only seen them in late summer, we never bothered them, as we knew they caught a lot of insects that we didn't like biting us.
Their webs really showed up in the first frost, you could see them from a long ways away.
Miss those days!

Salt gun would do a nice job. They are a beneficial spider.

It was just an optics issue so it was relocated.

LOL The important aspect is it didn't kill you!
Uncomfortable maybe, but didn't hurt you.

I hate spiders, but I'm willing to call a truce with those garden spiders. All others must die.

I basically agree. When we were kids, I'd pick up ants and flick'em into the web. We also called them banana spiders.
I can tolerate some spiders, but others are an automatic stomp. Hate the hairy ones and the fast movers. Wolf spiders give me the creeps, but I usually leave them alone.

They call them there 'writing spiders' in Carolina. Sounds more like 'rotten spodders' the way they say it.
An ole boy down there claims that if you see one, don't smile, cuz if he sees your teeth you'll die.
He was safe though since he only had one tooth and he wasn't taking very good care of that one,

I've seen small sparrow-sized birds hung in those yellow, sticky webs.....banana spider done sucked the life out of 'em.

Me trying to be quiet while walking to my deer stand in the pre-dawn hours is shot to h€ll when I inadvertently walk thru one of those webs....

Chemical warfare would be my choice, if you had to eliminate the thing.

I try to leave them be, even if they are big and nasty.
