Does anyone use the fancy twist link chain on any of their traps?
Is there any real advantage to using twist link chain vs straight link machine chain?
Thanks

The twist makes it coil nicely and I think its a little stronger.

Other than that......its just chain.

It’s stronger at least that’s what the poundage rating claims and it lays better under the trap when bedding. Also it’s just sexy and is just nice to work with. Other than that it’s just chain. It’s a little more per foot for all that sexiness though.

I like it and will spring for it when setting up a new batch of traps but its not a deal breaker type thing.

As when I was a coyote trapper, the ONLY advantage I ever saw with twist-link chain was that it laid flat in the trap bed and I favored that fact but beyond that, chain like-for-like is still just frigin chain!

Yes twist link does most all of the things mentioned above EXCEPT the "sexy" part. If it did that I would be wearing it!!!! Most common dog choke chains are made of twist link not due to strength but for contraction and less hair pinch...... After 45 yrs. of dogs, I keep all my hounds on cable with a 6' twist link runner attached to the 60' cable runs. It will wear better there than machine chain for me as its point of contact between links moves slightly with a twist and untwist so its wear point is slightly longer than machine chain. As far as trap chain, I like machine chain better but use what I have at the time for connecting coyote foot traps. My experience. ..................the mike

I use quite a bit of twist chain but for an entirely different reason

Down here, snow and ice are a rarity.
But someone will move down here, travel to a place where they need them or just buy some in the one rare occasion we get an "accumulation"

Then some time later their tire chains end up in a garage sale for $2-5 and I will buy them.
Examine them before buying and walk away from the ones that show wear.

I can sit down with a pair of pliers and a a cut off wheel and have them broken down into short pieces that work perfect to link a couple together with a swivel and have plenty of chain to rig traps with.
Plus the chain around/along the edges can be linked together and used for drags if you wanted or to hold a gate closed

The twist link chain seems to pack more with mud, and doesn't clean out as well as straight link, IMO.

I like twist link chain...expensive yes....I also think anytime you got mud EVERYTHING clogs up.
With all that said....I don't have it on many traps....maybe a dozen. I'm like BT IF I can get twist link
cheap, I use it and I have disassembled my share of items that have had twist link on it to use it on my traps.

The only failure I have had on welded link chain was with twist link on a superstake. Probably just a bad batch of chain of chain but no fun to lose a trap and catch. I only had a few traps rigged with this chain and examined them closely after having one fail. Found a couple more that appeared to have bad welds so I replaced all of that batch of chain.
