Grandpa and Great Uncle claimed to have seen him… they were loggers in the area
… Great Uncle also fished, trapped , hunted and womanized the area lol
I am 100% convinced that the supernatural does exist Savell. I think there are things that have been found and hidden because it is bad for business and bad for promoting the dominant paradigm. No doubt IMO this was the case going on in the mid and late 1800s, and then just rolled right into the all the 1900s and even to this day.
Before all the big virgin Timber was cut down in those swamps and bayous, the trees were hundreds of feet tall and supported totally different critters than they do today. Now, there is only very small remnants of what once remained. Would not surprise me if there could have been a remnant from the past that science denies telling us about that was witnessed from our kinfolk. Local Injun folklore support it.
On the other hand, with that legend in place, after the cutting down of all the virgin timber, blackbears, panthers, and wolves were displaced. I don't know if black bears can get sarcoptic mange or not, but if they do, then a severe case would certainly be a grissly sight....particularly one standing on two feet.
When I was 19, I used to work as a grunt for a local taxidermy/meat processor. One time I skint a black bear. Had him hanging upside down and when just the carcass was there it freaked me out cause it looked like a person hanging there. Reminded me of the movie Predator when they find all those skint soldiers hanging upside down.
