Just a piece of a salt block. Moose love salt and will lay down and stay for hours.

Here in MN our club sent thousands of dollars to the DNR to do a study on this. In the end they determined wolves played a role in the moose decline, but other factors had a large impact such as tick infestation. They never want to put the major blame on the wolves. Might make some of these pro-wolf organizations unhappy.

Last I read I thought they were blaming it on a supposedly booming whitetail population giving the moose brain worms? That was a few years ago, though, maybe the narrative changed.

One theory on moose decline was increase predator action by Black bears on moose calves.

Yep they said that but ask the guys that deer hunt in moose country and they will tell you don't see many deer either.

It’s been a while but I remember seeing some graphs from the DNR on their website. Doing my own research. And found a graph showing the wolf population over the years and then a similar graph for the moose. And whatya know, when wolf numbers go up, moose go down. They know it but they’ll never do anything about it. Except maybe government hunters and trappers.

Absolutely every study be on moose, deer, etc predation is just a minor factor according to them. People doing the studies of course work for the DNR. Frauds wouldn’t admit it if wolves ate every deer and moose in Minnesota. Probably blame it on climate change or logging.
