Dog acting weird this morning fidgeted a lot looks like she got into a carp rig yesterday she’s a sneak I took the poles out right away to avoid this issue but she found an extra rig sitting in the box I guess. She’s one tough pup must have a lot of hound in her it was stuck in the side of her lip. I tried to reverse it out no luck then thought about pushing it through the cutting off the barb it did finally back out when I hit the right angle on the barb.

Not once did she squeal just a uncomfortable whimper but no drama she has an amazing pain tolerance even when she and the bigger dog do rough play battle she holds her ground, now that they are closer in size it’s a lot more even then when she was a puppy.

Life sure is tough when you don't learn from the mistakes of others.

when the chihuahua pops an eye out she will let you push it back in no fuss, but try and get the eye drops near her once it is in and expect to get bit , which is almost comical because she only has half her teeth , 14 year old potato with legs.

I think they are in some sort of state of shock , then you fix the big issue and they are back to being normal

first time this happened 1100 for emergency vet
2nd was 20 minutes before our local vet opened so I was waiting at the door when they opened it , they showed me how and gave her some eye drops to use for a week
3rd I just popped it back in and used the eye drops again.

old chihuahua issue the eyes already bug out and the tissue weakens with age.
also about 95% sure she was picking a fight with the husky pyrenes mix that is 10x larger and got stepped on as there is never any other trauma but the eye no bite
little dog syndrome can be bad for their health.
just like little man syndrome can be hazardous.

A few years ago I was driving down the road a few miles from my house. When I see a gal coming across a yard with 5 foot strides flagging me down. She said we need help. Her husband had his 50 hook trotline stretched out drying and his setter pup had got loose and got in it. It was all he could do to hold her and keep her from getting hooked more and himself as well. It took a moment to get a game plan, got wire cutters out of truck and cut 3 hooks into and she was glad to be loose and so was he and his wife.

A few months later they flagged me down again. I wondered what this time. She said her husband had something for me. It was a box of .244 Rem shells. They knew I had one and he come across them in some of his wanderings. I asked them how much I owed them and they said nothing, and we won't even charge you for the 3 fish hooks you ruined, lol.

Just gotta throw this out there ,

I was was fishing with a young friend , he was about 20yo at the time. He managed to get a hook through his finger. Some crude lakeside medical assistance was needed.

He had a cold drink he had just finished leaving a cup of ice. I had him hold some ice on the area with the hook until it went somewhat numb from the cold.

The ice helped a great bit in removing the hook. Made it almost painless. Just using what little tools/supplies we had at the time.

Sometimes they know you're trying to help them. Pretty smart dog.

a good idea to keep a good pair of cutters around fishing

that reminds me I need to find my cable cutters and maybe get a spare pair for the truck door pocket

If you can get the hook point thru, but have nothing to cut the barb off with, you can mash the barb down and back it out that way. Don't ask!
