Watching a cooking show on PBS and it is discussing the dish’s sudden popularity that seemed to surge in the 70’s in the US.
The host traveled to Ukraine and sampled several before finding a suitable street food vendor who surprised him with the best results. Instead of a pounded chicken breast filled with butter and spices and coated and deep fried, the street vendor used ground chicken. This helped the bread crumbs adhere and resulted in a handheld snack that wouldn’t explode hot butter everywhere or leave a separate shell of breadcrumbs from rubbery chicken breast.
The original chicken Kyiv was made this way ,with ground chicken, during Soviet times because they were using up scraps of food.
Interesting
And delicious!

Aldi has a decent chicken Kiev, but the chicks cordon bleu is better. When I was a single, they were 79 cents, then 89 cents, then 99 cents and I used to eat a lot of them. I think they are over $2.00 now.

Keith, I can remember when Aldi was the “poor folks grocery store”
Not so much anymore. They went kinda upscale with their specialty items and started charging more on practically everything

And you have to pay a refundable 25 cents for a cart and take your own bags or boxes. Or buy theirs for 8 cents apiece.

Life ain't supposed to be easy.

Kroger in Morgantown WV blows every other grocery store out of the water. Huge selection and quality . We took a trip there today. And I think they have very good prices
Just look at these cheeses

Never cared for ground chicken, but good grilled chicken I can get behind that.

Your Kroger looks kinda like a HYVEE here I prefer Fareway, simple things but better meat.

The largest grocery store in America is a Kroger's Marketplace in Springdale, which is over 120,000 square feet. They sell all sports of stuff. I like Jungle Jim's better.
