I'm considering it , for the money more then anything wheel house is making $691 a day dog dead bottom and up to $850 something a day at the tippy top on the buggers boats. I'm about to be topped out as an advanced tankerman at only $431 a day , I mean I'm living pretty comfortably right now where I'm at but the way my back is going and my arthritis and all ... Idk though I have a serious problem not moving for hours on end , hard enough driving the 4-6 he to Texas to get int he boat, the idea of just staring out a window for hours in end just moving the sticks

I mean both my captain and my pilot are all saying when I'm really to just let them know they would be happy to try and get me started training but idk

it's big money...but big responsibility....a little more to it than just moving sticks, lol

Fantastic shots. What you're using as a cam seems to get the colours and clarity well. The skies over big water often have wonderful sunsets and rises. Hawaii is unsurpassed for that too.

Get your Cap license.

My father was a Cap and there was no shortage of bids to hire him . Same with his pilot talents in flight.

You wont be sorry. But you could be later on if you don't. It's an ace in the hole for you.

Mates work a bit different out there then in regular boats

So mate at usually on non tanking boats , which with my company 9/10 time is gonna be a big line haul boat. They don't really do much involved the barges past building tow, being over gear swaps with other boats , taking orders from the wheel house and making sure it gets done on the deck.... Basically there glorified deckhands out here do t get me wrong to me a mate you basically got a master the deck but egh... Honestly I'm basically the mate as is on here being the lead tankerman not to mention mates top out at like $420 something I think , I'll be over that about $20 when I get my advanced tankerman here in a bit.

Now as far as wheelhouse goes I'd have to study and take the steersman's entry exam , pass that then I'll be training in the wheelhouse as liel my main job driving the boat and training upper a captain. Then I gotta jump around on a few boats , both cannal and river till I get something filled out hours , then there's another test I think to become a pilot. Once your a pilots your up there solo driving the boat holding your own watch , but your still not a captain completely. Then comes relief captain then a full fleshed out captain

But idk I'm still thinking about it. But the way things are going with my back and arthritis and what not think I'll give the deck a few more years....at least till I get a good replacement for my spot and I'll probably go for it. Just another certificate/ license in the ole hat.

Probably gonna have to work till I die anyhow might as well have as many options to do something inliel when I'm ole and decrepit be a cold day I end up like some of these 60 somethings having to be working at McDonald's... Don't get me wrong I could see myself doing it because I bored of sitting at the house but I wanna have that ability to toss some nagging boss the bird and go get something else ina month

Funny story , ends up I'm a little notorious in a few places we go because of my accent and the stuff I say on the radio swear Everytime we're in Houston I'll be helping another boat or be on dock and someone will here me and come up goin " HAY MAN TALK REAL QUICK ? YEAAAAHHHHH YOU NUGGET ! WE BE LISTENING TO YALL ON THE RADIO ! "
