Easy to understand.

Rather simple and easy to understand.
I'm my own fourth and fifth cousin. Third and fourth cousin once removed from my father. Second cousin twice removed to my grandparents. First cousin thrice removed from their mothers, my great grandmothers.
I'm also third cousin twice removed from my grandfather, second cousin thrice removed from his father, my great grandfather and first cousin four times removed from his parents my great great grandparents.
That makes my daughter my once removed fourth and fifth cousin. She is also fifth and sixth cousin to her first cousins and once removed fourth and fifth cousin to her uncles.

See isn't that simple?

I like, “yeah, I’m related to them somewhere up the tree”.

That sounds more like a family brair patch than a family tree.

Actually what it sounds like is me trying to explain my various dogs pedigrees and how they are related to each other. Lots of line breeding, and a little in breeding. Even if it doesn't look that close on three generation pedigree, you go back four or five and realize that they are like 75% one great grandparent.

It makes complete sense to me. We are all very closely related. Your cousins are literally your cousins many millions of ways if you go back far enough. If you go back a thousand years, you potentially could have over 1 billion ancestors. You don't, because there wasn't that many people. Most Europeans, if you could see their complete pedigree a thousand years back, have thousands of ancestors that appear in their pedigree many thousands of times.

DNA studies show there is definitely one woman we are all descended from and at least 2 men we are all descended from, if you go all the way back.

Keith
