For many years been thinking of having a rock engraved with compass. Wanted it for by my fire pit at the lake when campfiring. Get to arguing which way is exactly which.
This spring while turkey hunting. I was thinking about it again I ain't getting any younger. Coming out of the woods I seen this rock sitting along trail. Thought looked perfect for what I wanted. So I hauled it back to the truck brought it home.. Couple weeks back I dropped it at local monument company. Talked with the lady there that does the design work. Basically gave her pictures of what I wanted. She said can do but would be a bit, I said no provlem. Called them this morning she said done and good to go. I went picked it up.
Is exactly what I envisioned.
Finally just did it instead of thinking about it, or talking about it.
Guy really needs to try do that more often.

I’ve carved several field stones like that with family names. Nothing fancy but they make for cheap gifts.

Or just to keep someone from rotating it, so the argument about which direction is which still carries on.

What type of tools do you have to engrave in rock? Thanks

Im not sure what ADC used. The company that did the rock for me I believe is still sand blasting. I ask when I dropped the rock off if they were using g a CNC machine. Said nope is some kind of rubber mat stencil and sand blast.
If a guy wasn't getting to big and complicated you could fudge it with a bigger style Dremel tool.
Softer type stone guy could scrap out easy enough.
Makes guy wonder how the ancients carved them cool statues.

It looks cool but it is broken. When I am looking at indicated North, that is actually East. Roll it over and see if you can adjust it for declination too. smile

I have nothing clever to put here.

That’s neat, you can use a hammer and chisel to cut it.
