Well It was pretty much like any other road trip I guess.
That old wheel tractor just wasn't up to the task so I bought an old International T340 dozer. There was an old air force radar site about 70 miles from my cabin. I had the dozer flown in there in an even older C-119 Flying Boxcar.

I drove it from there cross country to my cabin. Took 7 or 8 days breaking my own trail and just camping wherever darkness caught up with me. Some of the crick crossings kinda got my blood pumping as did one large lake.

Crossing that lake I put the thing in 3rd gear and set the throttle......and then jumped off. It was about a mile across the lake. I snowshoed along behind. When the blade hit the bank on the other side it killed the engine. Worked like a charm. I wasn't wild about the idea of riding that thing to the bottom of that lake.

Pretty handy thing to have when making a camp in the evening. Drop the blade and make a flat spot....drag in some dead logs for a fire and I had a cozy camp.

Well I guess a guy learns something every day. While I was aware that Ken homesteaded his place I thought it was during the Oklahoma land grab..........

To everyone that said thanks.... you're welcome.

No one mentioned the dog sled, which I believe Ken made himself!

Ken, your bulldozer story is cool.... but tell us a trapping story!!

As I started reading this, my first thought was there was no way I would be riding that thing across a lake. Nice "work around" setting the throttle and an even better story. THANK YOU for sharing!

I have nothing clever to put here.

In all honesty I've always hoped that Ken and Ole Blister would write a book about their lives .

Ken is the real deal and I honestly can say I enjoy his sense of humor too !

If you haven’t already, you really should write a book Ken.

The story you posted here many years ago about the inside passage along the west coast was fantastic. I remember printing it out and reading it to my family who also enjoyed it.

If I recall correctly, years later I urged you to post it here once again and you did.

Based on that one story, I can tell that you have an excellent writing style and any book you might want to publish would be at the top of my “to buy” list.

Eh...wot?
