The Gasconade and Osage are the local rivers we fish. Spent Friday night on the Gasconade with my youngest son. We didn’t have the best bait, but didn’t get skunked.

It had been 20 years since I stayed out all night sleeping on a gravel bar. I wasn’t worth a dang all day yesterday.

it is hard to do much after an all nighter

but it is cool to do , those seem to be trips you remember.

Son brought along a couple of his buddies that had never fished like that before. They were amazed how easy it was. They all had a big fry last night.

Gigged on the gasconade never cat fished... have catfished the Osage at bonnet mills where it met the missouri, loved that, camped out all weekend in a tent right before deer season every year.

Seems like a good haul to me. We haven't been on the river all year, too much water. If the water recedes now the flathead bite is over anyway until fall, when there won't be enough water.

I used to try to out to the Roubidoux every weekend when I did my AIT at Leonard Wood. Some good fishing there.

In college we used to go camp on the James River and just use shiners we caught and wormed them on hooks. Would make a couple limb lines and fish with poles standing in the current. What bait did you all use? Used hellgrammites also but caught more small mouths and goggle eyes on them than the wadded up shiners.

We used perch 3-5” long on the circle hooks and like you, wadded/wormed on shiners and dough bellies on the bait holder hooks.

First time we haven’t caught a turtle, did catch 2 gar. One of them was close to 3 1/2 feet long.
