Rabbit probably cost more than 50 dollars. Whatever they cost a bounty would have every 14 year old with a 410 in that neck of the woods snake hunting. Be more fun too.

Why aren’t they just using pheromones? Draw in all the males and dispatch.

Would just hope the females, after not getting enough male attention, won’t change their gender identity.

Have mentioned this before, but there is a 100 some plus page study that was published, so they already have a lot of information to use on them. Yet seem to be coming up with these goofy ideas. One of few attempts at trapping was they had Tomahawk Live Trap make them some modified coon cages.........basically extended to 3 or 4 feet with two pans........both pans had to be pressed at same time for trap to fire. That was to avoid non-targets. (These are still shown in Tomahawk catalog). But low and behold they didn't work. Not sure how they thought a 15 foot snake was going to fit in a cage that small, and still have the door close.......or for that matter, ever go in a cage in the first place. Wonder if they ever tried something like the old wooden funnel fish traps.........extended to 6 feet or so?

Or, they also know during breeding season the females head for high ground to lay eggs........in dens. And males follow. So they got them congregated in confined areas........might try a den trap there? I could go on......but it would have never occurred to me to build a fake rabbit for bait. Live rabbit maybe, but not a fake one.

I didn't watch it but does the fake rabbit put off heat and smell? snakes have poor eyes they pick up on heat and smell more.

Yeah, there’s some sort of thermal output inside the rabbot (just made that up, but I’m sticking with it). Apparently they’re figuring out the smell portion. Either way, seems completely ridiculous.

Heat now......smell is coming. Then........once a snake has been attracted, then they call one of their contractors in to catch it.........apparently alive. They are not serious about the problem.

They idea of pulling them in out of the brush is right. How to go about it and what happens once they do needs some modification.

BTW, couple of other interesting bits of info in that study.......these snakes have home range of about 2 miles..........and maybe density of 5 to 10 snakes per square mile. They may migrate 10 to 20 miles in a season. Having guys wade out into the swamp to look under the bushes seems utterly stupid. Baiting them in better way to go.
