I've only heard of folks catching them in the early spring or late winter here in Montana . as for other places I haven't a clue for this time of year .

Catch them through the ice and again in spring. Out here their dormant time of year is summer.
The cormorants have taken out populations of them in the shallower lakes in the summer where they lie on the mud bottoms and are lethargic.

I used to fish them in MT on the river in the spring always. I have caught a few in ND both through the ice and open water, but never fished for them here. In the spring in MT we always stopped fishing them before they stopped biting, if they ever do. I feel we set the time we fished them more then they did.

Thanks for those replies Mark did you fish for them in the Missouri? The ones I’ve caught have been in Holter. The Kooteney has been a bust so far.

Yes, mostly between Cascade and Gt Falls. Any where there was an eddie. We always used cut sucker or carp for bait.
