For any interested, I put a 32min video up in the fur handling forum on how I put up skunks. I haven’t fooled around with editing so I did the skinning, fleshing, boarding and essence removal all in one shot. Would’ve been nice to hit pause and flesh/board in the garage.

Saw a beautiful mostly white roadkill on the shoulder today. If it was October I may have stopped and at least looked at him. Hopefully I’ll decide discretion is the better part of valor by fall. Be interesting to see how long the demand at 30 plus dollars continues. Or in other words how long before trappers overproduce? Might be surprising how many may just target them. How many the Jews need I’m guessing no one has a clue about?

I wonder how soon skunk skins are good enough for the current tail market? It seems to me that by early fall they at least look kind of nice from the outside. Haven't bothered to look up close at a September skunk.

Why didn't you cut off the tail?

But an august tail from ADC work or a roadkill with lots of long hair and lots of white and getting it tanned just might get you $60.00. Well $50.00.
With groney getting into the skunk market that just might prolong those higher prices for a while. But even at $30.00 it would be better then $8.00 coon and $2.00 rats and $5.00 coyotes. Then add in the essence and the pods and the fat and the skulls you would be in hog heaven.

Hey beav what do you use the fat for? Lure or bait maybe.

No, it sure doesn’t. The skins so black, I can barely tell if this is fur in or out…lol.
I’ll might only get a couple more wandering through my yard or my buddies place. Hopefully more in the coon sets this fall.

I never found a market for the fat, so I never kept any. But there is a market somewhere.

Not bad considering it’s an August 1st skunk. Good thing to got wrapped up in the tarp that was over buddies cage trap, it kinda protected it from rubbing itself bare in that thing. I gave him one of my small tube traps to set up instead.
I’ll take a pic after I pull it off on toss it into the freezer tonight or tomorrow.

That fat will self render into a nice oil. That oil is great for tincturing ethiopian civet paste into. Use a double boiler.
