Went there again last week and she recognized me so she dumped me off to a newer waitress. The newer waitress did a great job and the tip reflected that. I hope the nasty one found out. Either way I feel like they both got what they deserved. Tipping should be subjective depending on service. I always try to tip in cash but I usually check with the waitress to see what they prefer. Sometimes cash matters ,sometimes not.

Wonder if the menu stated that you would be charged for sharing, lots of places do that and it is not the servers just adding a charge for fun.

No the menu did not say there was a charge nor did the waitress inform me there would be when we ordered. I rarely split plates but rather than order two dishes and no appetizer that is what we chose to do.

Two different meals- If service is equal, why should a tip be more just because the food cost more?

Put a tip on your card and most will never see the waiter or waitress

As of late, I've started to use the "cash back" option when I shop at the same grocery store I've been using for the past, almost , ten years. On the days they're really busy and they're all hustling and moving, I'll just slide that $10 right back to them. Absolutely makes their day as it's so unexpected. Just acknowledging good service while giving them a morale boost.

Same here. I usually give 20% of the total bill, more if they are exceptional.

When incomes are low is when an increase helps the most to give you a higher SS stipened. That is how the system was created to help those that have lower incomes.

1st off.....super nice of you.

2nd..... that poor cashier is probably having a heart attack. Most places have a strong policy about accepting tips. I used to get tips at Sam's Club when I was a kid pushing carts and loading cars. I definitely appreciated it but was under constant fear of getting fired for it.

I recently took my wife, daughter, son-in-law and grandkids to a restaurant in NY. It's a big place and it was packed. The staff was hustling.

Our waitress, an older women, was excellent. She was patient and took the time to answer many questions, especially from the grandkids, despite how hectic it was for staff at the time. She did a great job.

I normally tip 20%, less if the waiter/waitress doesn't meet basic standards.

In this case I tipped 25% of our bill which was significant since there were seven of us.

Eh...wot?
