![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2025/08/full-56914-265518-img_3074.jpeg) Illinois limit this morning 5 is a mighty low limit. Missouri limit was 6 for many, many, years. We got it bumped to 10 several years back. We could have no limit and it wouldn’t effect the population at all in my opinion. What gets me is nobody hunts squirrels anymore and your right no limit wouldn’t matter but it’s been 5 my whole life 61 years

At 73 6 was fine with me. 10 ok no limit as you say who cares. No one hunt squirrels. When I’m out never see a squirrel hunter and hunt public land most the time. Might see one or two opening day. In 70s my vet friend from west plans Mo saved parts from squirrels for biogist at Columbia research and the following. Occurred. For a few years the season did not open till August 1. I think. Don’t really remember all the details but it sure messed up our annual squirrel hunt in the National park by west plains. We still killed enough young ones to barbecue but swimming the Ozark streams were used to cool off in the heat. It was a cool hunt. 5 college kids from around the state and one from out of state we did it for years till other responsibilities broke it up Heading out with my cousin in the morning then hit the creeks fishing a bit . I don’t know of one young person that squirrel hunts and the older ones can’t hack it anymore

And, our season is one of the longest in the country!

Seed ticks are the second worst for me. Chiggers are my nemesis. They absolutely love me. I get into a batch or two a year. I have permanent scars on my legs from scratching them. Reds in the woods here. Grays in the parks around town. I guess its not like that everywhere? OSU had grays on campus. Completely the opposite here. You see fox squirrels in town or open piney woods. But those cat squirrels have pretty much taken over most places. We do get a few fox squirrels in the hardwood swamps but they don't like thick woods at all.
