I wore out a heritage 22 revolver. 5-6 thousand rounds?. Sent back to be repaired. Then sold it. Yes 22 lr. Never wore out anything else. I dont do a lot of paper shooting. My guns are tools and stuff I just enjoy owning. I could see a serious target/competition guy wearing a barrel out enough he aint happy anymore. If I can reliably hit a squirrel or rabbit at 50 yards with a 22 rifle, 25-30 with a pistol, hit deer or coyotes at 300 with a hi power I am happy with that. I guess 30-30 is a hi power. I aint skeered of 150 yard shots with it. Good rest, no wind, I have stretched that 300 yards out some.
I believe shot out barrel is subjective. A serious competition shooter will rebarrel a rifle when dime size groups open to quarter size. A hunter may not notice.

I have shot out a handful. So far all have either been 22-250 or 22-250 AI. My current 22-250 AI barrel is approaching 2k but still holding sub MOA. Replacement barrel is already here.
Have one 25-06 that has 1500 rounds on it and starting to open up. Not sure what I will do with that one.
I jump from gun to gun now days so no one rifle gets shot a lot unfortunately.

Find it curious that 243 Win has reputation for burning out barrels PDQ, yet 308 Win (parent case for 243 Win) has reputation of barrels lasting forever.

There is another aspect of 308 Win that seems unique to it.........chamber cut with extra free bore.......such that by the time the hot gas gets to the throat or leade, things have calmed down......so does not burn barrels as bad. And for some reason, the same free bore is also said to be a factor in the inherent accuracy of the 308. But if all that is true.......why not do the same with all of them?
BTW, on the 308 free bore, that is real. I was trying to find the lands with a 150 grain Speer Hot Cor.....a stubby little bullet and if seated far enough out to touch the lands, there was hardly any bullet left in the case neck. The jump of one of those is huge. Yet it shoots pretty good. So not sure why they don't chamber them all like that.

In fact in a lot of rifles if you seat the bullet to just touch the lands its to long for the magazine.

The Weatherbys and Contenders I was around had much free bore. My most accurate ever had next to none. I want it tight. Other's opinion will vary lol.

one 223/5/56 barrel shot out it might have found it's way on to a Legal dealer owned MG lower for a while.
so not a huge surprise a cheap barrel got shot out with a decent volume of fire at a mag emptying pace.
22lr and 30-30 are almost impossible to shoot out , there just isn't the pressure for it. seen plenty of 22lr lead up , seen plenty of trigger and action parts wear out and break but 22lr barrels are more often neglected to death rather than shot.
another reason 308 lasts a long time , a hot 308 is 2750fps that can run a lot of rounds for it's bearing surface
I have worn out parts on several guns just not other barrels
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.
