Neat collection!

When I was a kid growing up in Pewaukee, WI, they used a fly trap named the "Big Stinky" It was a glass jar thing on the bottom with a domed, finned top screwed on. They put godawful stuff in them and the flies crawled down and died in the jar. They were all over town. I actually think they were invented by some guy in Pewaukee.

My Dad used to tell me about when he was young they would buy Chameleons (actually Anole lizards) at the carnivals. They would tie a string around their necks and wear them on their shirts to catch any insects that happened to land. He said they would also hollow out corks and use stick pins to make little doors to keep the flies in after they caught them and pulled off one wing. I made some of those when I was a kid because I always had Chameleons in a little screened cage in the house.

I guess the Big Stinky's are still in use and available! A buddy of mine who is still in the Pewaukee area sent me this link:

I made some out of glass gallon jars...worked great, killed tens of thousands, that was when the duck farms were still here, worst part about the traps was emptying them!, lol

Some of them can double as flour sifters when not fly season.

We can’t use those here, not on the FIC certification list. Pretty much for the display shelf for us.
