Well never mind, gcs. I don't need to know. I didnt know ranching had any unacceptable terms . That's a new one on me.

I only know spray paint on animals in a herd to keep track of the ones treated with medications.

I don't know keeping sheep but I like to see kids showing them , and seeing them at fairs.

Never mind .

Sharon, you paint the buck so he transfers paint to the ewe when he mounts her. Let's you know what has been bred.

Thank you, Sam. That was an easy explanation. That is an easy one, too, for a rancher, nothing needs to be crude.

That is a " Marking Harness "... It has a plastic holder...that holds a 3x5 ..2 inch thick crayon..

It's low on his chest... between his front legs.

And when he mounts a ewe in heat...the back and forth action of

Love making takes place. And that crayon color will transfer onto the ewe.

And that will let you know ...she's been bred.

And 150 days from that mark...you'll have lambs.

Are there more than one male around and if so I would assume he gets a different color? It would be interesting to see, by the color of the ewes, which team color is preferred; Who is the MVP of the flock.

We usually have 2 rams....but have to keep them separated

During breeding ...or they will kill each other..

And yes a different colored crayon for him

Oh yeah...smashing heads..with 325+ pound rams...during breeding season

When testosterone is high....you definitely want them on either end of the property....so they can't see each other

Nessy , thanks for your explanation. I appreciate learning . I know the horse industry , that’s all . I have always liked sheep , along with rabbits and chooks .

The world of ranch life is good for everyone.

You said it. I learn something every day here. Makes you realize how little we all know. What others have been doing for generations we have no clue about!
