Reading through the recent fisher thread got me wondering, would it be beneficial to pre-bait fishers? It seems they favor bear baits, not only for the actual bait, but also for the mice and other rodents attracted to it. Two years ago I had my first fisher tag in northern WI and struck out, and now I have one for the southern zone. I was hoping to tip the odds in my favor a bit. Thoughts?

ABSOLUTELY! Get them checking/using a cubby on a regular basis.

Use it like field recon too. It'll show you what spot they are cruising through or living in .

I like to set around bear baiting sites when I can.

This year will be a tough year as there’s typically a lot of natural forage on odd numbered years.

Tried pre baiting one year. Turned into a possum station for every single one in the county.

Here prebaiting works. So far we have no possums yet.

We prebait with deer rib cages and scraps from nuisance killed deer, and then early killed bow deer. Make bait piles and keep adding to them. Yea, you’ll get other critters but the fisher definitely check them out. It’s worked well for us the past few years.

From my experience I’ve found you can put out a big bait and get bobcats to “camp” on it. Fisher will for sure work prebait but they seem to be a lot harder to hold in an area they don’t frequent often. Maybe in areas of lots of snow and minimal feed opportunity the results would be different.

So many deer gut piles and dead deer here too. They have plenty to investigate
