Are there any tanneries that are doing beaver tails now. My internet searches haven’t turned up anyone but I may be off my search game.

Trail cameras and fresh snow have broke a lot of trapper’s hearts.

A place of myth. Lol. I keep hearing lots of talk but haven't heard of anything yet. I'm hoping someone is starting to do them in volume soon.

I've searched for 3 years now and have not found any companies that do major run tanning on tails with it being so high that I would not be able to use them in this country, cause I would not pass the cost on to customers, they would not pay the amount, and I can't absorb the total cost without raising the price of my work.

There is a fellow on here that does them by himself which I know is very time consuming and labor intensive, and you have to dye your own colors, he just does them plain, which is fine, however one on one work is time waiting for product turn over is time consuming when you are only still doing 20 or 30 at a time !

There are countries out there that will do them, however after having seen and tried to use some of that product it's questionable they product would even stay together and the cost is per 500 tails at a time, plus shipping the and shipping back, plus waiting for customs to ok the work.

If some one knows of a tanner here that does them as a regular part of their work process I sure would like to know as well.

I'm going to go with the member here when ready to do so if he is still doing them when the time comes, just won't be as much sent out at a time, and still will have to do my own color dying which isn't a stop production thing really just another time thing.

Have tried it I don't care for the softness that chrome leaves you with, isn't soft enough and working it to get that soft is to time consuming when doing 20 or thirty wallets or a few belts every month, the dyeing in doesn't come out even either.

Probably be great for mountain man work, however I still would just use the other method of tanning for my use !

Oh that looks very nice, Tatiana. I didn't know they could get that soft and pliable. Thank you for those photos. Amazing .

Of course, wallets and belts need to be thicker and stiff enough, but surely there is a place to enjoy that soft leather in other things !

I saw that PanAm Leathers or Glacierwear have tanned tails for sale. Maybe you can track down where they get them. I saw some place was tanning them and I am trying to get their name. It seems like they were in MI, but I am not 100% sure.

T, no doubt at least by looks you have it down, I don't actually care for the time involved in tanning anymore, with trying to keep up with my buyers needs, it's just plain easier to buy tanned than taking the time to do it then do the product.

I make to order and don't have inventory to draw from already done, most want custom work which means everything I do is different in some way, and I'm still real busy with constant back orders, doing my own tanning again would just make the sells slower and be backed up more, I don't care for my customers to be waiting weeks or months for orders.
