Wow, after seeing what skunk pelts are going for recently, I have to wonder what the end use is for them.
I would appreciate some input on this even though the subject has no doubt been covered here at one time or another.

I'm just happy to be here! Today I'm as young as I'll ever be and and older than I've ever been before!

Thanks for sharing. I had heard at one point they were using deer tails. Wonder why they decided on skunks and the more white the better? They would make pretty hats.

The tails are not being used natural. They are being dyed brown , not sure what shade. Probably something similar to the color of a marten/sable.

Deer tail hair didn’t take the dye as well as the skunk tail white hair. Also didn’t lay quite right on the hat.

These are special ceremonial hats, worn on special occasions. Have to be perfect. Price is not an object.

I read in one of the other threads about skunks that they use 40 tails because 40 is a lucky number or something like that. I could be wrong.

Being that sable is Russian, are these prices some fallout from the Ukraine War?

Could it be expected to see Alaskan/Canadian marten prices go up?

They use 42 tails because it is a holy number for Jews.
