Buddy drew a Custer State Park tag 2,000 applications for 5 tags what a lucky stiff! I was thinking about my antelope decoy then realized I never got it back, the same with the blind I loaned out. Now Im thinking about the other stuff I will never get back I’d guess it’s a lot of stuff.
My one buddy borrowed my single shot youth turkey gun for his kids but he keeps having kids I might never see that again. LOL
Looks like I’m going antelope hunting this year I can’t wait I know the park pretty well. Doc is fun to hunt with.

Heck I’d give it to them if they needed it anyway. I guess I already did that.

several dozen traps giving out a few at a time to people with instruction on how to catch the problem. Got told when they got the problem but never have the traps found their way home. My copy of marine sniper I lone to a co worker. He lost his mind after his wife died and lost his job soon after or got an early retirement deal. Was told he was found dead in his house a few years back. Good guy with some of the best back woods KY red neck stories.
Money but figured it was gone when I loaned it. 3 things I can think of right off. Nothing truly important just the principle.

Only way I loan stuff out is if they give me something they want back.
Sad it's got that way, but people have no respect anymore.
Let me sugar coat this

As someone who has a large tool collection , it is a problem. All the time friends want to borrow them. Luckily nowadays , it is super easy to refer them to places like Advanced Auto or another large auto part supplier who rents tools for free with a deposit equal to the tools replacement cost. Owning a pickup has the same problem , everybody wants to borrow it. I refer them to Home Depot rental that is as cheap as $19.95 a day plus mileage. Uhaul has similar rates for their smallest box trucks.

When you loan somthing out just tell them to keep it because no one ever returns any thing any way. I seem to get most things returned this way exept for traps. I gues traps where designed for sticky fingers.

Cage traps...someone needs to borrow one, then that person loans it to someone else, and so on, till poof! no one knows where it went....
OR, the first borrower claims " I brought that back..don't you remember?" lol Spot on. I loaned one to a co worker once and then he loaned it to his sister who then moved away. I guess he forgot it wasn’t his to begin with

If they don’t bring a cage back they seem to run them over somehow that’s rather common leave them in the open rather then pick them up, the grass grows tall then oh ya that’s where that trap was when it gets crushed. Had a guy buy 10 quality cages the next year he needed 10 more his kid left them out when he was done trapping but never collected them just spread all over farm country. Finally had a talk with the kid about not setting them in travel ways set closer to structures and trees you can see better.

Uhaul has similar rates for their smallest box trucks. Just had that happen- an acquaintance wanted to borrow my pickup to haul scrap. Said he would kick me some gas, it was only 3-4 loads (yea right it will probably be 7-10). I gave him the ol' Did you ever see a scrappers truck?, Nice of you to ask what I would charge, I wouldnt lend my truck out to my daughter (I would, just was on a roll). THEN, when he got desperate, he offered me 100.00, I said that doesnt sound near enough I just aint doing it- please stop asking. Im too old for this stuff , know what happens and I always pay up when I get work done.

"I'd loan you my wife before I loan you my tools. I KNOW she'll come back"
Was a sign I had on my tool box when I wrenched. that's funny and kinda on point

Cage traps...someone needs to borrow one, then that person loans it to someone else, and so on, till poof! no one knows where it went....
OR, the first borrower claims " I brought that back..don't you remember?" lol Very spot on as elsmasho said. Over the years I have gotten a couple of lower grade havahart or tractor supply traps customers have given me. Those are my loaner traps. Of course they want to borrow my pro grade traps instead. A flat NO. Take the lower grade trap or nothing. If I get the lower grade ones back , fine. If not , not a problem too. Yep , seen that too , where it loaned out from the borrower to someone else and vanishes. I tell the borrower to hunt it down or pay me to replace it. And the lie that they already returned it. I had an incident years ago , was at a friend's apartment watching TV with him and his friend. The friend asked to borrow $3 towards getting a little ceasar's pizza on the way home. It was very dark in the room. I pulled what I thought was 3 dollar bills out of my wallet and gave it to him. Later on when I was home I realized I had given him 2 dollar bills and a five by mistake. Never heard back about it. I told my friend what had happened and also told him what I thought of his friend. Told him I learned a lot of his friend's character. To me , it was almost worth the $5 I lost because now I knew what kind of person he was. My friend called him out on it , so now 2 people knew who that friend of a friend was. Never saw any money return too.

It's funny that you all mention cage traps. I'm currently on the way to try and steal one back. Last time I loan an $80 trap, and last time I loan anything to my brother-in-law. is he a no good brother in law from Illinois? is he married to your youngest sister or did you marry his sister? I don't have any brother in laws , maybe on my next go round , I had a father in law , he was so un mechanical I wouldn't loan him a hammer he would just hurt him self or beat the screw in with it and wonder why it didn't work. It was much easier to just go do it so I didn't have to try and figure out how he screwed it up

He's from Arizona and he married my youngest sister. yup youngest sisters find the best ones , it's like their job in a family. I don't have any sisters but it holds true in so many cases both my moms and dads youngest sisters have had some special ones.

GCP, I feel for you with no brother in laws...so heres the deal...you can have mine, please, no need to thank me! well you know I am short a wife , do you have any other sisters that aren't married , then I could marry one of them and I would have a brother in law I could go fishing with.

Brother in laws aren't real family, just say no...LOL He probably won't be asking to borrow it again. I got it stolen back. Now in about a week I'll go ask him when he's going to be done using it. Ought to make him a little nervous when he can't find it.

And if you really dislike him, ask him to pay for a replacement!, Can you imagine......just for the heck of it......the borrower can't find it , starts panicking a bit then sneaks over to Big Sam's place late at night and steals it back. All along thinking he is stealing another trap that looks like the one he was loaned. Then days later contacts Big Sam to return the trap. That would be a bit awkward to say the least..........

OR, the first borrower claims " I brought that back..don't you remember?" lol Got to the point that I just gave it to them. I built my own for a few years, just sold the business , enough parts for over 100 traps, all the tools , and other machines to build trapping supplies. Just can't do it anymore. A good young trapper got a deal, as he also got all my traps. They are a better trap than Williams made and better than Duke , can't wait to see how he does with them. Sterling fur used to sell them.

Sometimes brother in laws go through stages in life like everyone.
Mine was 8 when I started dating his sister that was 16 at the time. He followed me around some. I taught him to shoot took him trapping and hunting . Good kid, he joined the army, got married went to Afghanistan. Came back physically and mentally broken divorced( always picks the wrong type called home and she answers the phone while in clearly the act while he was Ina one of the hottest active parts of Afghanistan) and several years with drug problems more marriages more divorce. Where some loaned that loaned money I never expected back went. Got to the point I cut him off and he was not welcome at my house even when my in-laws were living with me untill I was sure he was clean for at least a full year.
Today he is doing well and has his crap together. I'm very proud of him. Head diesel mechanic for a local trucking company that has a lot of rigs, runs mechanic side business. Deals with broken body and a lot of pain from that.
Responsible enough to know he has trouble so even making sure his pain meds after his latest surgeries were keep by his mom and at her house because he wants to eliminate temptation. I'm darn proud of him and there was a time I never thought I would say that. He is a good Responsible man I'm lucky to have in my life. We all go through stages in life. Sometimes we improve when the odds are against us b
You never know how things are going to work out with people seen a lot of folks fail had some just surprise me with great successes that I would have never bet on. Still it’s a nice surprise whoever succeeds in the end.
