I was out in the shed looking for an axe to show someone and stumbled upon these old Newhouse gopher traps that I forgot I had. Just wondering if anyone ever used one, and if they worked well.

Need pics, at least. Pretty vague description.

Yep, had a couple and used them as a kid. Don't recall ever catching a gopher in one. It appears to me that the dog is perfectly designed to fling the gopher out of the trap as it is closing.

I was wondering about that dog myself. Perhaps that's why I haven't seen a bunch of these hanging in sheds like I do with all the other styles of gopher and mole traps.

If I remember correctly, some of those had "standing bears" stamped on them near the flap on the spring.

The bears were hiding under the flap, which means they were very well preserved. Bears date the trap to 1911 to 1912.

I let one get away many years ago. Money was tight and I thought $85.00 was too much. I’ve been kicking myself ever since!!!

I've had a few but never used them. Mine were newer, no stamps except on the pan. Those not worth alot.

I have one of those and have used and caught many gophers with them.

I searched for bears with no luck. I got a call today from a fellow that's having issues with beavers and gophers. I might put one in the dirt and see how it works. Thank you all for the info, it's appreciated.
