I picked up volleyball officiating this year since I apparently needed to memorize another 3 books and needed something to do in the fall before basketball season.

Just finished 6 years of club volleyball with our youngest daughter. She is now playing JR College volleyball and will decide from there if she wants to keep playing. I had never been much for volleyball until she really wanted to pursue it. Plenty of stupid rules in any sport. I used to officiate basketball, but gave up that gig awhile back. Its good that there are people willing to do it. Officials take alot of abuse anymore and the pay isnt worth the crap that you have to put up with. We hear of games cancelled for lack of officials all the time.

Volleyball isn't bad as far as rules go, especially since they've made it so that you can do pretty anything you want with the ball as long as you keep it on your side of the net and closing catch it. Sub and rotation rules are the hardest thing to keep track of.

Ohio has the most officials of any state and it's still iffy getting enough officials to cover games. I think I'm doing all my junior high games by myself. Baseball and softball, anything below varsity you rarely see two. I still do several varsity softball games by myself. This year Ohio started a classification in volleyball for people that just want to line judge which is pretty easy other than all the squatting and lounging you have to do

Like many other things, being a trapper really sets you up well for being a sports official. We have the observation skills and we don't mind dung called names lol

My oldest and youngest daughter played volleyball. Went to lots of games. Youth league, summer league high school games and 4 years of college with the youngest.

Hope I never watch another volleyball game again

Parents had to volunteer to line judge all our highschool games short of end of season tournament play. I didnt mind line judging.
