Just checked prices on cage wire 14ga 1x1x36 a 100 foot roll is $345.00 the 15x15 1x1 end roll is $145 for 100 foot roll thats a costly cage now. Still need the doors , frames and rings to complete them. Tough to make a buck at those prices.
The good 12.5 2x1 stuff only comes in 30 inch length now it’s cheaper a close price out maybe. I need to get some frames made and use up the rolls of wire I have laying around.

Only way to build cage traps is to buy in bulk. Klubertanz is the best product out there. Anything else , you may get by for a few years, but then you get nothing but junk wire. 12 1/2 wire is the toughest wire you can get. 14 Gauge is very good wire and will last for years. Most commercial cage makers use 16 gauge, if you see 1/ 1/2 inch along the bottom of a cage trap, don't buy it! If you make a lot of cage traps and have the market , best to team up with a trap supply dealer, to help with the cost of materials.

Shoot ever since I went and bought some quail and brought som the the transport cages I made up I've had people hitting me up every few days asking for some type of cage. Heck the initial investment actually isn't that bad for me it's just found somewhere I can get it delivered to or something.... And Lord forbid you try and talk to someone at the store about ordering lol. The second you say something other then har ware cloth or something

Not all commercial cage trap makers , use 16 gauge, but watch who you buy from. There's a few very good cage trap makers out there, just be informed on what you buy. A good cage trap, made with 14 gauge wire, will be at least $ 80.00, a cage trap built with 12 1/2 gage will be over $ 100.00 Don't be fooled by those that tell you that you need traps that have doors that lock either. Don't listen to those that tell you ring locks don't work either. If set on level ground, they don't tip over. If setting on a slope, ( don't) but if you do, use two T stakes.

Yes Klubertanz the only place to get cage wire that’s worth using the stuff you get at the farm supply store have the old American brand names but it’s imported junk the welds pop when you bend the wire. The stuff is galvanized then welded the opposite of the good stuff to make cages with. They moved to IN now further East then I figured on East of Elkhart a ways that’s not on my travel route at least I went to WI every couple of years or my buddies picked up rolls for me.

Never had a critter break any welds with the 12.5 size wire I believe it’s lobster wire from the east coast quality stuff good old American made stuff. Hoot buddy bought direct from the factory he’d sell me rolls when I needed them and the frames. I just cut, bent and ringed the wire on the 3 frame parts. A new salesmen took over at the wire place he would not deal with him not even on a truckload of wire.

I buy good wire from Bass Equipment. It is made in Italy and good quality wire. It isn't cheap but I am in Texas and shipping isn't as bad. Where is bass out of?

That same roll at Klubertanz is $150 less that might warrant a trip to IN and bring back a load of wire if I can secure the building jigs from my Hoot buddy.

Wolfdog is right , it's 9 gauge if not 7 or 8 gauge. I use horse/cattle/ hog panel for arbors in my garden. But never seen 9 gauge in a cage wire form before.
