We've talked about cage building before, you asked how I got square corners on my cages.
A steel homemade break is how.

Yes the 12.5 ga wire takes a bigger ring and they carry a blunt for less fur damage.

You crimp any average hog ring you have 2 exposed sharp points some are more of an issue then others might be but with the blunt ends that takes the points out of the equation that way.

Oh OK , I never used hog rings on my cages.
I used air tools to put on the rings and j hooks.
Cleaner and much less work/time.
Hog rings were used for tomato cages.

Klubertanz will deliver wire and their other products they sell, free to rabbit shows they are selling at, if they have space in their truck. They do rabbit shows over a lot of the US. My friend James saved close to $1700.00 on shipping that way.

Ohio State University built a 78' by 15' 6" pigeon loft for me in exchange for pigeons eggs they needed for an experiment. They spent over $4600.00 on it, plus labor. Most of the cost was for the wire and shipping from Klubertanz. I had them buy the heaviest gauge 1/2" wire Klubertanz sells. You can walk on it with out bending it. I think it's 6' wide. I don't use that loft because it's to hot in the Summer and I have to access it by a ladder. I should take the wire down and do something with it. I think it is 11 gauge.

Really? never seen it with less than a 4 inch opening up to 6x4 . possum and coon will just almost walk out of it!

2x4 horse panel is pretty common. There supposed to have lighter stuff which I'd love but never see it in the wild lol

I use the 12.5ga rings I see a lot of missing wire rings even if there’s a lot they seem to get lost and snag when they are working their way off. Just think the 12.5 rings are less of a hassle but I’m after quality that’s my main goal building them that way.

You using a hand crimper?
I didn't know of an air powered crimper in that size.
Just didn't know, but they can make a lot of things I have no idea of.
Learn something new everyday!

Really don't need a 12 1/2 gauge ringer.

Bosch makes the ringer I used.
Last time I checked it was around $ 600 + and that was 10 years ago.
I used an air powered j hooker also , you do them by hand?

Also, I used chain for the trigger pan, a lot easier to clean out the trap, and the coon gives up on something that's that loose.

if you know of any place that sells commercial crabbing supplies you can find the air ring guns.

Air ring guns come in 2 sizes, the 3/4" is for the heavier gauge wire, I have both sizes and use them for building conch and crab pots, and use ss rings, I need to use the vinyl dipped wire, which is super expensive,,,The aquamesh wire is made in New Bedford, used to get seconds from there that was very good, the fishery supply dealer is essentially next door to the wire plant and would walk over and see what was available, however that all ended when the sons took over...The Italian wire is the equal of aquamesh and cheaper, but no idea now with the tariffs....I had stocked up some years ago so don't know current pricing, the dealer would load his truck for the Long Island customers and that saved a lot of shipping costs...otherwise you pay through the nose....the plain wire should be cheaper, but steel prices are high so still expensive....you almost need to pick it up yourself, if possible.

Once the old wire stocks are gone quality cages will be very expensive to build with $500 for a 100 foot roll of wire that is a lot to invest and that’s without a roll of wire to cap off the back end, rod for the frames/doors, chain and rings. A 100 foot roll will yield just over 20 14X14x36 wire coverings, less if you don’t have a roll of wire to fit the back ends.

In the past buying a smaller roll 15 inch wide 100 foot long then trimming off the extra inch to make it 14 square eliminated waste that way so you won’t need to cut on the bigger rolls to make the end covers. The extra cages made produced more than paid for the short rolls cost. Every cut made produced waste so make as few cuts as needed to get the pieces you need.
