Well, sort of. wink I spent a good bit of time researching these before I finally pulled the trigger. Any of yall own a Tak?

Besides it being a fun big kid toy, I needed something to help with a list of ever growing problems on our farm, two of which are russian autumn olive and multiflora rose. The main driver was being able to clean up after the logger is finished next fall. As money permits, I plan to add a stump bucket with grapple and some type of brush cutter in the near future. I don't know if I'll go with a heavy duty brush cutter or a forestry disc mulcher. The latter is a bit pricey.

Any recommendations on brush cutters vs disc mulcher? We have a mix of softwood and hardwoods along field edges that need to be cut back. Most are 8"s or smaller.

I've ran one but never owned one. This is an enclosed cab machine with high flow. I plan to do a full service on it next weekend just to be sure maintenance hasn't been neglected. It was a voluntarily repo, so hopefully the prior owner took care of it. Everything seems to be sound on it except for the bucket.

They make a lot of great attachments for a skid steer and a good operator can get s lot done with one of those things.

It probably wasn't far from your house on Saturday. Came to Missouri from Pennsylvania.

Leftlane, I have a little 2 ton mini excavator that's been pretty handy but can't do what a CTL can. Between the two, I think I can make a little foldin' money as a side business in order to subsidize my attachment arsenal.

Probably ran down I 64 if so less than 20 minutes.

Great plan. I usually try to do at least enough work with new tools to get them to pay for themselves at the minimum..

Russian autumn olive and multi-flora rose, how is a skid steer going to help with those?

Cutting them to the ground will only cause them to resprout.

You'll be mowing them from now till kingdom come.

I’ve ran them before on jobs. Most contractors have cat Deere or case but they are all nice to me. Handy machines just hate backing them up camera or no camera

I think it's a lot like buying a chainsaw. Whoever has the best dealer support closest to you.

Couldn’t imagine not having one ! Tracks have both advantages and disadvantages. What diesel motor ?

Nice bud.
Handy as a pocket on a shirt if you’re a landowner. Especially a landowner wanting to do some wildlife management.

Tachs are a very solid reliable machine, I would rate them up near the top.

Just the right amount of whelm.

74 hp Kubota, 2700 hrs. Should last me a while. I didn't want to deal with DEF and the emissions bull crap so I had to stay below 75 hp.

Clay, that's the plan. When the logger is finished I'm hoping to turn the skid roads into food plots.

Diggerman, I didn't know much about taks until I started researching them. They build a really nice machine.

Its the one my contractor runs. I borrowed it for a weekend. No reason for you not to like it I wouldn't think.

I know I learned that my compact tractor with a FIL is no skid steer by any means... however a skid steer is no tractor either... not sure that helps you but it might someone else. Good purchase I think.

I wanted one so bad, I still do I was afraid I’d move piles of dirt around until I got bored then use it as much as some do their boats. Neighbor has one I do the weeds on our lots all summer and he clears the snow in the winter (I still pay him if it’s a big job or gravel work) If I need something heavy moved he comes over with his bobcat. When he goes on vacation or is at work I take care of his birds used to walk his dog often but he ran over him. Sad day I really like that old boy.

Once I get all my projects done I probably won't need it as much. However we have a road that goes down over a steep bluff that farmers use to access our bottom ground. I normally have to hire a dozer every four or five years to clean it up. That's a few grand each time. Should be able to stay on top of it myself now.

Tree or post puller works well on anything up to 4 inches or so. Use mine alot for brush.
