Jamestown was a proto-socialist settlement. They ditched that idea pretty quickly Jonestown , was even worse , communism hidden under religion. That idea died rather quick after it fell apart. " Don't drink the Kool aid "

Again,,,Russia and China are not communist. Both have embraced capitalism Rebranding the communism of Russia and China as "State Capitalism" doesn't change what it is and how it works any more than rebranding illegal aliens as "undocumented immigrants" changes what they are. Rebranding is a trick used by politicians to fool the uninformed.

The book "Animal Farm" explained it pretty well. "We are all equal........it's just that some are more equal than others".
Founding fathers........and their ancestors.........had lived under aristocratic rule used in Europe. Gentry and commoners. Were ruled by people whose sole claim to fame was they were lucky enough to have been born to right parents. So founders, wanting to avoid all that, set up our system of government based on individual rights and rule of law, where success or failure in life determined by one's own actions. That system has built USA into the most successful country in history of the world.
Problem with our system is there are people not motivated enough to succeed and after the communist / socialist stuff started showing up 100 years or so ago, people bought into the idea of something for nothing. If there are more people with that idea than the other, easy to get elected running on platform of "from those according to ability, to those according to need". Free cheese.
Loki may have been right. The human condition really may be we crave subjugation.........freedom and self sufficiency just too hard for most.
BTW, ever notice how many immigrants from all parts of the world come here and thrive? While those born here muddle along in squalor? Those immigrants come from societies where there is no social welfare system. No means of backup. Work or starve. They come here highly motivated, work hard and thrive. That is the reason they get credit for doing work nobody here will do. Our bunch, now dependent on welfare and such, only work hard at gaming the system for more free stuff.
Easy to vote your way into socialism, but impossible to vote your way out of it.

It is an economic system where the government owns the means of production. Plenty of this throughout the world including the U.S. Most countries consist of mixed economies with a mix of private and government ownership of the means of production.
"goods and services are distributed based on individual need, following the principle "from each according to their ability, to each according to their needs"."
There is a ton of this going on these days.
Almost all government programs require you to prove how needy you are.

You asked about Putin and communism in the OP,,,,,,,and then posted this link What’s up???? My take on that poll is that about 50% of Americans are just plain stupid; both left and right.

Social/communism look good on paper but never factor in two human traits, greed and laziness All people are equals, except that some are more equal than the rest!.

The Hutterites have a commune type of lifestyle system but under the “we all work for the colony” they want to better their life like any good capitalist does. Lots of side hustles going on for personal enrichment like any person.
Was born in a Big City Will die in the Country OK with that!
