Sounds good to me. Deer have been shot out of my first house bathroom window. Must be lazy if im not driving out to a lease and putting in the work though.

Or could be those that dont like the work involved in living in the country are lazy and live in town for convenience. Everything is all about prospective.

Myself there is nothing specal or hard about killing deer.l

I can respect that level of self-awareness.

I too am part of the "kill a deer with any weapon you want crowd". I have heard every argument on this thread for the last 20 years. I read through the pages but didn't see any comments about getting the next generation or non typical outdoorsmen involved. I think the future of outdoor sports is in serious jeopardy - we have all witnessed a decline in the number of trappers, fishermen, hunters, etc over the last 30 years. Wisconsin has seen an uptick in the number of people picking up archery thanks to the crossbow. I say that is a good thing for all of us. More hunters means more people advocating for outdoor sports.

Good luck this fall with whatever weapon(s) you decide to hunt with.

Absolutely. Don’t forget that promoting in school archery programs also helps. Like NASP. It gets more kids involved in archery and leads them to 3-d archery and possibly archery hunting for game animals. At a minimum it gets them involved in archery shooting sports and has them involved with the benefits of it.

And yes, crossbows get more people involved that might not do it.

The haters of getting more people involved in the sport of hunting and archery disagree. and I can see the argument… they state that the more people means more pressure on an already diminishing amount of land to hunt. Both public and private… what with outrageous lease fees and selling of public lands.

We do need more hunter, trappers and fishermen. Or at a minimum those that support or understand the need for those of us who pursue those activities.

We need less uniformed haters who don’t know their donkey from a hole in the ground.

Our numbers are dwindling. Some states are reintroducing extirpated predator species to do the job of hunters. We will become irrelevant.

So we should probably focus on recruitment rather than hating on whatever legal weapons other hunters choose to use.

I also think hunters should be able to use anything that is safe and effective. That said, I opposed allowing crossbows during ARCHERY season in IN. A crossbow is a loaded, cocked, gun-trigger operated weapon that will shoot much further with less practice than archery equipment for the vast majority of people. It is not archery in my opinion. Not because it kills differently but because of how it operates and the potential for being less safe under archery regulations.

I would definitely have supported allowing them during firearms and muzzleloader season, and I was in favor of adding a season just for crossbows outside of other seasons, maybe a January season when it is more difficult to use archery equipment because of the cold weather. Had a season been added, I might have bought a crossbow myself just to increase my hunting opportunities.

Obviously my side lost, and it is not the end of the world, but I guess in the end it left me with a bad taste for crossbows in general. I understand that others feel differently and I agree we should all get along. I dont say anything, but when I see a young crossbow hunter I can’t help but feel a little sorry for them that will not know the joy of real archery. I was always in favor of allowing crossbows for people who are unable to use archery equipment.

I don't know why some of you guys think a crossbow is a long-range weapon. They most definitely are not.

My Excalibur shoots bolts at about 330 fps. That's about the same as modern compounds.

I have it sighted in to be four inches high at twenty yards, two inches high at thirty yards and by the time it gets to forty yards it's already five inches low. That's not exactly a fla trajectory. It might be a little better than a vertical bow but I suspect not by much.

I prefer my shots at thirty yards or less.

I have a peep sight on mine. I always thought having a scope on such a short-range weapon was silly.

Shoots much farther than a vertical bow? Not that I've seen.

Well, glad you see why you lost I suppose.

They are archery equipment.

Just because they have a trigger? lol, so you don’t use a mechanical release on your compound bow? That operates as a trigger also! You are just holding the string back at 80% let off be it being on the crossbow.

Hope you are using fingers only with the compound bow.

They shoot just as far as any other bow. Sure you need less practice. But I can have a novice shooting a compound bow just the same with proper instruction. Using a kisser button and a well tuned bow that is sighted in.

They aren’t a firearm. They are a horizontal bow as opposed to a vertical bow.

If you don’t want to use one don’t. Nobody is forcing you.

Also, please explain how they are less safe?

Further with less practice. I have a good buddy who jacked his shoulder up. He bought a xbow and sighted it in and was stacking them at 40 yards immediately. No muscle tone or technique required.

Again, Im over being upset about it. Win some lose some. But I have shot both, and I disagree that xbows are archery equipment.

So it’s safer.

And it is archery equipment. You can disagree all you want. Doesn’t change the fact that it’s archery equipment.

Like those folks that are dudes pretending to be chicks .They can think what they want. But they are still dudes.

The vertical bow guys sure do like to cast aspersions don't they? "Lazy, unethical, incompetent..."

Meanwhile they're shooting compounds with all the bells and whistles. Does that make them "lazy, unethical and incompetent" because they refuse to put the time in and become proficient with a recurve or longbow? Might be a case of the pot calling the kettle black?
