Not sure about most people but I dont walk in the woods with the xbow loaded. I have it set but not loaded. bolts dont get set till I'm set in the tree. Yeah if it goes off, dry fire is bad for the bow but its better than the alternative.

Yes. Went to the Renaissance Festival today. Was a good time. Had a decent pumpkin ale. Saw some folks shooting archery. Almost got triggered when I saw a lady shooting a crossbow. It was scary.
