I totally agree that compounds are nothing special and not hard to pick up and become competent with. We've already saw a massive uptick in deer being taken with xbows and liscenses sold. This will result in more 1 deer areas, more buck only areas and more leases.

At this point I support a longer rifle season and doing away with a special archery season, atleast then the woods open to small game and trapping when it's done.

Do they close trapping and small game hunting when your archery and firearms season is open? That sounds dumb if they do.

hate to break it to all the crossbows aren't archery people out there but they are.

Archery is the use of bows and arrows.

a crossBOW is a bow, a bow being the bent force of a beam to store energy and release it thus propelling an arrow.

Its just as much a bow as a compound is, both using the bent beams and pulleys.

The bolt of a crossbow is still an arrow, different than an old school wooded arrow with feather fletching but still an arrow.

The biggest difference is the crossbow stores much more energy than either a compound, recurve or long bow.

It certainly isn't and air gun or a firearm.

However ...

I've actually fought against my own bow hunting organizations who were against x-bows. I saw the writing on the wall and saw where Oklahoma's Dept. of Wildlife Conservation interests were. More deer need to be harvested and more tags sold. Nor was I one of those that called my elected officials to air my grievances against them .

Being busted is probably the least of anyones reasons for going with the crossbow. Though for guys that hunt out of box blinds its a bit harder to shoot a regular bow out of a box blind.

No, the majority of landowners just won't allow anyone to hunt or trap until deer season is over. Deer season is roughly Sept 15th to Dec 31st now.

That's why leasing is a plague for farmers. If they want small game animals or does managed off their property they cant lease their property. Or they need to instead of leasing, sell hunts for the prerut and rut times then go back normal after.

Haven't been able to talk farmers into raising cost of the lease and sending me the increase to come in and do the wildlife control later yet

Then is a person like me who is proficient with a compound bow lazy when I hunt with a rifle?

You're using a rifle during the appointed season. That's not the same comparison.
