When the topic starts with Who Hates in the first two words, the line in the sand has already been drawn. Anyone thinks todays compound bow is that hard to shoot get a grip. my son shoots out to a hundred yard with his compound everyday. I can pick his bow up today and shoot respectable groups out to 40 yards. I love my crossbow they have legal in Ohio for over 50 years. get over it. I am also putting my 2023 crossbow harvest in the Buckeye Big Buck Record book this year. Hate that! Owe did I mention he was was killed in the middle of the rut at less than 10 yards. He didn't go 20. Hate that!

Heck yeah.

Congrats on the big deer from 2023 and getting him in the big buck record book!

That’s awesome.

My Uncle hunted with some pf the N Ohio guys.
Their buck management goals/tactics
were bass ackwards than Pa today.
Wheel bows were just getting popular.
The tools change.
Our need to gripe, remains the same.

Thank you, this topic really burns my behind. In a time when we need to encourage the next generation of outdoorsman coupled with fairy tail groups that would be more than happy to see all our hunting, fishing and trapping stopped all together. The same guy that complains about the use of crossbows, will use a cell camera, bait deer, or create a 10 acre food plot with ten different stands on it to accommodate every wind direction ( all are legal in Ohio) and then tell you how many 150 inch deer he passes up because he is only shooting 200 inchers. in Ohio,Traditional, compound and crossbow deer harvest number surpass gun/muzzleloader by a lot. Hey here is another one who hates inline muzzleloaders? I only say this because if you really want to find something to complain, dislike, or hate it is easy to do.

Amazing I addressed you. Want to limit x bow to a special seasion. OK no problem But it needs to be x bow only and not vertical bows allowed. Should restrict archery gear during firearms and black powder seasion as well.

The problem is you want and like to be able to hunt your way all seasion in every seasion. Start talking about limiting that and you are not happy. One of those all about me and my way individuals.

The long bow hinting season was already available to everyone, now you want to further reduce seasons because of expanded weapon choice, this is exactly my argument for not putting xbows in archery season...

My point is the anti x bow guys love hunting all 3 months of deer season.bow, gun, black powder. But if you flip the script and say anything about limiting their methods/season of hunting they get their feeling hurt.. Limit others methods/season they are all for but don't limit mine..
Maybe that time my explanation was clear enough? Sometimes when I explain things it makes since to me but other still dont understand what im saying. A lot of people get frustrated and thein the other person not understanding is to dumb to get it. But in fact if someone is not understanding what im explaining im the one failing to explain it in a way it clicks for them.

Funny how everyone draws the purity line exactly where their gear ends. Stricter than me? You’re a fanatic. Looser than me? You’re a cheater.

To keep my conscience clean, I’ve gone fully primitive. I hunt only with:
– A bow gnawed from a tree branch, strung with critter intestines.
– A knife I personally forged in the fires of Mordor before I let Sauron take over the plant.

And when that was called “cheating,” I went purist for the next three seasons: leaping from treetops and finishing deer with my bare teeth. No hypocrisy here.

My point was everyone could of hunted 3 months already, they just didn't want to spend a few mins a week practicing.

We are a one deer limit in most of the state and bucks only in some of that. There's already tremendous pressure on the resource, next year rifles will be legal state wide which will add additional pressure. The legislator didn't have to add even more pressure with xbows.

I've had 3 calls this year asking to lease my land for hunting, maybe 1 call total in 10 years before that. The legislator added enough pressure on the resource to the point that the only realistic way to succeed (locally) is to buy or lease land. No longer can a kid get a $50 bow at the flea market and hunt in realitive peace with a chance of success, now they also need to lease some land. I guess it's worth it because now the boomers can get a crossbow and hunt without having to practice...

Basically sounds like a lot of just wanting to limit people to what you wat to use so you get less pressure for your deer. If you can't kill One deer in 3 months without wanting to limit others people ability to hunt with their tool of choice it sure says a lot.

There is nothing magical about shooting a compound Started shooting deer with them when I was 14. Killed my first several deer with a bow before I ever picked up a gun to hunt them. Hunted with a bow during gun season many years as well. X bows are not magic and do have some drawbacks. Someone already pointed out they limit shots you can take with a vertical bow when a deer is behind your tree. They also suck carrying them in compared to a vertical bow. Vertical just carries easer for me.

But I got it you dont like more competition in the woods and just want to use anything that gets people out of the wood untill you get your deer. You could not bee any more clear. Im just the opposite and want to see more people geting out and enjoying the outdoors. Even when out with the boys if I see other heading to and area on public land we just smile and tell them a good spot over there and head off somewhere else and hope they are successful.

Dang, that sucks. Why did they lower the limit? Too many deer harvested?

Guess y’all will have to start hunting urban deer or by a beef or two to raise.

Im not sure . Seemes they change the rules so much from year to year these days its ridiculous. I have several guns bought to fill the restrictions placed for hunting public land I no longer need. This year they opend it up to anything 223 and up. Used to need to be 357 diameter and under a certain length limiting it to handgun rounds and th8ngs like 350 legend and such.

Legal handguns need to have a 4" barrel and length min of 1.? to make things like 9mm and 45 acp not legal. BUT there is an exception and 10 mm and 40 s&w ARE legal. You know becuse 40 Smith and Wesson is a much beter round the 45acp. That duplicates some weak 45 colt loads and 45 colt is legal.

Two things can be true at the same time and also can coexist. For example...
I'll always consider able bodied people who are fully capable of drawing a bow to be lazy. Slant it anyway you want , but the fact is, you just don't want to spend the time being proficient and got frustrated getting busted drawing your bow.

However ...

I've actually fought against my own bow hunting organizations who were against x-bows. I saw the writing on the wall and saw where Oklahoma's Dept. of Wildlife Conservation interests were. More deer need to be harvested and more tags sold. Nor was I one of those that called my elected officials to air my grievances against them .

I'm curious where your thought lie on allowing non-resident trapping in MN.?

We should allow it. May have to have additional restrictions on some species like marten and fisher but the blanket ban is unhelpful, we need the support of out of state trappers and organizations and few people would say the resources here are stressed by resident trappers.

Sounds good. I agree with your stance on it.

You all can carry on with the crossbow argument.
