When my cousin and God daughter's daughter turned 5, I sent her this video and told her I hired these Muppets to sing for her birthday, but they could only count to 4.
Bone Crusher, Wayne Hardnett Jr., the artist performing this song, was a childhood friend of mine. He used to sleep over at my house, during the Summer when he would come up from Atlanta to spend the Summer at his auntie's house, 3 doors down from ours. The kids in the ATL had a very unflattering nickname for him. His family was dirt poor, so he would write me letters during the school year rather than calling. Here is a heavily censored version of one of his hits. I've always thought it would be fun to perform it on stage with him and his crew, but I have not talked to him in many years.
Jello sued this band and they had to change their name from Green Jello to Green Jelly. In their live shows, they perform this with crappy, homemade looking puppets.
Back in high school, I told my friend Matt, that he looked lime a cross between Collin Hay, the lead singer of Men At Work and Rick OCasek, the lead singer of the Cars. It was totally true. He even had Collin Hay's lazy eye. He was not flattered by that. I pointed out that both of them did well with the ladies. He was somewhat mollified until he realised he had their looks, but couldn't sing.
The dwarf in this video looks so much like a dwarf, I went to high school and college with, Danny, that I looked him up to see if it was him. It wasn't. We had a little over 11 mile annual walk as a fundraiser for our high school. We would put Danny in a shopping cart and take turns pushing him. His legs were to short and misshapen to walk that far. He was President of the Little People of America, later on and in lots of movies, including Olivia Newton John's A Mom for Christmas. He was always type cast as an elf, dwarf or some sort of creature in a costume.
My favorite Marilyn Manson video and one of my favorite songs of his. His girlfriend, Dita Von Teese, who's in the champagne glass, did some great photo shoots back in the nineties.
