Then is a person like me who is proficient with a compound bow lazy when I hunt with a rifle?
You're using a rifle during the appointed season. That's not the same comparison. Not to beat this to death, but I would be using a crossbow during the appointed bow season as well. My point about using my rifle during rifle season is that I am choosing an easier, more powerful weapon during a season when I still could use a more primitive, traditional and challenging one. I could make it harder on myself by using a bow, but I guess I'm lazy. I love muzzleloader hunting too, and it is more primitive and challenging (loading, using open sights) than my normal deer rifle. I hunt the muzzleloader season, but I could choose muzzleloader throughout gun deer seasons here, but I don't. I guess I'm lazy. I love the hunt. I love everything before, during and after the hunt. I am just not trying to make my shot more challenging. I'll save that for elsewhere. If this argument is about respecting and preserving traditional weapons, a high tech compound bow is an odd choice. The compound bow folks have ruled a very long bow season and had the best chance at the most trophy deer for a long time. I think the crossbow users just invaded their world with another high tech weapon.

Folks this type of post is what creates division among those of us that are like minded and spend a ton of time in the woods.
Divisiveness is bad for all outdoor activities. hunting, fishing, trapping and anything else. This is when we should just align and say, ok, I have taken deer and other critters with a longbow, recurve, compound and I had to switch to a crossbow due to health issues.
The above is who I am. the only thing I havent taken a deer with is a spear. I am not opposed to this idea.
There are a lot of folks that milk the issue and those who just want to be in the woods hunting. It makes no difference what weapon they choose. we are all part of the same group and dividing us conquers us.
If your neighbor wishes to hunt with a crossbow, longbow or a freaking spear. Be a good neighbor and back them. otherwise we give up a ton of ground because we become divided.
This isnt helping our cause. nor our God given right to provide for our families by what the Almighty has provided for us.
These types of posts are divisive. We shouldnt be going into these types of issues. Very well put Patrices also but I can't reply that many times.

Me tiptoeing through the thread with my air rifle bow gun, shhhhh. lol, can’t wait till he finds out about those. lol i think he would be ok with the indiana rules since they are allowed but only during firearms season.. I expect if that same rule applied to x bows he and other's would be happy. Its all about wanting less competition

These types of posts are divisive. We shouldnt be going into these types of issues. I agree. As I said earlier, I did oppose allowing crossbows during archery season, since I don’t find them to be archery equipment, but now that I am on the losing side of that, I don’t hold it against anyone who uses crossbows any more than I hated on compounds before crossbows. Yes, I am one of those who enjoys using an osage bow I made myself and flint points on arrows I carved from hickory splits or dogwood shoots. I also hunted from a saddle starting around 1995 or so, when I was using a Green’s Tree Sling - so it really was not about being against technology, it was just the equipment I found the most fulfilling and fun to use. But after around 30 deer with stone points, I went back to my David Miller longbow and steel broadheads just because I realized it did not much matter (the stone was every bit as effective as steel, and either bow was as effective also, and the “modern” longbow was easier as I had less time to make my own equipment. And now, I can not draw a bow, so I will probably just hunt firearm if I hunt deer this year. If I do use a crossbow, I will make it myself. I seriously considered building a stock for one of my longbows to convert it to a crossbow. That would be an unwieldy contraption, so I wouldn’t even consider it if I could draw a bow. Use whatever you enjoy and is legal, we are all hunters. I just did not agree with including crossbows as legal during archery season for the able-bodied folks. But now that they are, my position is that we are all hunters and need to stick together. I never hated crossbows, just wanted them to have an added season and be allowed during firearms seasons.

Man let's talk about how great dog hunting is instead You talk'n about shoot'n people's pets? Please no! Wolfdog, not in this thread. There's already enough people worked up. But if that's your thing get a quality suppressor and use subsonics. Maybe then you won't get caught.
