`Friend of mine also in his early 70s is looking for a used crossbow and equipment to go with it. Has never fired one before, but now finding the compound he has is becoming difficult with the advancing arthritis and such. A local dealer says he doesn't deal in used crossbows due to issues with non-maintenance and liability. So . . . on a long shot I'm tossing this out there to see if anyone attending the WTA rondy next week has bumped up to a different system and has their unneeded crossbow and equipment hanging around.

Friend is leery of looking for something on Facebook or Craig's List as who knows what you're going to be looking at. I'd have to believe that a Trapperman member would be a better risk.

If the seller can spare some time in educating my friend on the equipment at the rondy that would be a huge plus. I'm no expert. I just put the crosshairs behind the shoulder and pull the trigger. Do that a couple of times and put it away 'til next season.

So, there it is. He's not in a big hurry, but if the right opportunity presents itself he'd appreciate it.

PM me with phone number and I'll have him give you a call.

Thanks

Sidenote: I see the thread on who hates crossbows continues to grow. Story to share . . .

In 1976 I bought a brand spanking new Bear Alaskan compound. The old 4 pulley bow. I was shooting aluminum shaft 22/19s and grouping them quite well at 40 yards.

Well, I took that thing to the Necedah bow shoot that year. Was before I "discovered" the WTA. Anyway, quite a crowd gathered around me and that bow as I was hitting bullseyes for the most part.

And oh . . . the unkind comments I heard from the recurve and longbow purists. This wasn't the only compound there. But I felt enough of the "hatred" that I didn't return the next year or renew my membership in the Wisconsin bowhunters.

I used that compound right up to about five years ago, shooting the same arrows I bought years ago. Bear razorheads. It now hangs next to my Bear Grizzly recurve Dad bought for me back in the 60s.

Shoulders are shot, biceps blown out, arthritis wakes me up in the middle of the night . . . good time for the crossbow. But I'm certainly not going to badmouth anyone who decides to hunt with one, regardless of ability.

How one takes game is a matter of personal pride.

Hopefully he will find one. I just sold a Ravin R10 that I bought new 3 years ago but never used besides initial sight in. Too fancy for me as I still prefer my Excalibur Axiom crossbow. Downside is that there is no cranking device to (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) it but once cocked it can stay that way for the season. Not true with the Ravin. "How one takes game is a matter of personal pride." Agree 100%

Look at a pawn shop they might have a cheap solution to his needs, Stay away from the hyper speed ones they look like a pain especially for a newer shooter. My Whitetail Hunter II fits my needs and has plenty of velocity to get it done.

Figure out what he can (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) it with rope or crank options I use a rope but with my shoulders it’s tough at the end but it gets there.
