When a meal order is messed up?

Ordinarily I just shrug it off as one I'm not a picky eater and two I understand mistakes happen.

But sometimes it just hits me wrong after I clearly describe what I want and it is a repeated mistake.

I avoid McDs a double hamburger plain seems to be unattainable there you know rocket science king of stuff. Either way the constant wrong order or all of the salt they put on that little patty is bad for my blood pressure.

What I’d like to do is slap it on the front window and watch it slowly slide down the glass but I’d never do that.

I gotta laugh.

It was about 10 years ago that McDonald's was looking at improving quicker wait times in the drive thru lane.

#1 problem they found was customers checking their order before driving away and making the line go faster.
You had to check your order , it was wrong A LOT.

So they implemented some kind of double checking system and put a little sticker on the bag sealing it.

Now it took even longer to check it because ya had to peel off the sticker to open the bag. Orders were still messed up.

Went canoeing with my bros family. Afterward with hit some bar and grill in Pinconning. Nice enough place but my wife is a picky eater. She ordered a grilled chicken sandwich plain. The waitress asked what plain meant she replied only bun and chicken. Her order came with everything on it. When she started scrapping stuff off the waitress noticed the mistake and took it from her. When it came out a second time it was a basket of fries with a piece of chicken in it (no bun). She just ate it. We are pretty chill with stuff like this. Like we just accept fails when ordering special. BTW the beer and wings were good. lol

The usual mistake is no onions on a burger when I clearly say extra onions. Understandable as there probably more folks that don't like onions than the onion eaters like myself.

Today's debacle was my local waffle house where I'm semi-regular enough to be recognized when I walk in.

Double order, smothered, chunked, capped, and lightly peppered. Yup, I call it off by memory and never say covered yet half the time I get it with cheese on top. Well, there's a lot of cheese eaters out there.

Remake is not cooked crisp at all and was lacking peppers, the texas bacon cheesteak is missing bacon, cheese, and onions. The whole tastes burnt from something burnt on the grill. All in all not up the usual standards.

I hate being a karen but where's the line?

The older you get the less pleasures in life you have to look forward to and food is probably one of the last one you’re going to have daily. My in-laws when they were in assisted care I noticed the place came to life at meal times them old folks picked up the pace a bit. Meals was the one constant that they still could prioritize in all the confusion that comes with old age.

Mess with my food or coffee and I’m not a happy camper on a good day. LOL

I've always kind of figured that you do a business a service by calling out mistakes so they can improve and provide better service in the future. Lord knows that when I had employees to manage I demanded mistake free service for my clients. Probably why I don't have any employees today, lol.

Maybe try ordering in normal language? LOL I have no idea what what you just said means. grin

It depends. Most of the time I just scrape off what's wrong and go on with my day. Exception is shredded lettuce. Lettuce literally makes me gag... so if there's shreds of it all over a sandwich or taco... it's either return it or throw it out, cos I can't eat it.

The other exception is how long I have to wait first. Fast food places around here... some of them... are incredibly inept. I worked as management in fast food for a number of years, so I know what it's like, and what it takes... and when there's 2 cars in the drive through and two customers in the lobby and you're waiting 30 + minutes for 2 sandwiches and an order of fries.... something is very wrong. So if I have to wait a very long time for my order... finally get it... and it's wrong?? Then yeah... I'm in a mood by that point!

Angela, I'm shocked that you dont know the Waffle House menu. We might have to review your application for a southern card if you dont know the Waffle House menu by heart, lol.

Smothered=onions
Covered=cheese
Chunked=ham
Capped=mushrooms
Topped=chili
Peppered=jalapeños

Double order=hashbrowns × 2

I just try and be nice or if it's an option I'll just order from the kiosk. Being petty is just asking for you food to get spat on ect with a lot of fast food people. And the kiosk is just less of a pain and my food it's also right ... Which kinda irritates me because all I usually want is a burger with just meat cheese and the bun...mabye bacon and some ketchup

At a nice sit down place... Still try to be nice have a few friends who work in kitchens and the head chefs apparently are always waiting for some petty customer to make there day.

At a waffle house.....well I don't wanna get stabbed so yet again ...nice

I would never complain at a restaurant because whatever comes out the second time you know is going to have spit in it.

Your paying for it to be right. Their getting paid to as well. Not much difficulty in understanding that. Your customers expect you to do what they ask.
Your not being a Karen. Just want to get what you ordered. Simple.

How about when a waitress insists on using her memory for the tables order. Then it comes out wrong or she forgot who got what. Just write it down lol

Though this thread is basically about food but there are other facets of pettiness that aren’t related to food that are just as impactful to a person’s livelihood. A chef, a cook, a server’s attention to their customers needs is easily understandable but what about anyone who has to meet a specific criteria? If a person fails to meet whatever the acceptable and expected criteria is specified is it being petty to complain is the question and how is that handled by the purchaser.

Because I was a Welding Engr as well as a Certified Welding Inspector, I had to oversee Welding Inspectors who could be petty or picky when inspecting welders welds. Believe me there is a fine line between the two and what the spec says very similar to a fast food expectation also the “who is on top” deal. One of the first things that I warned inspectors about was the fact that these welders (or restaurant workers) all had families depending on them. Make sure the inspection of a welder’s work wasn’t petty or picky but only according to the spec understanding that the inspector held the welder’s future paycheck and that of his family in their hands when they inspected and criticized the welds!!

Hopefully my analogy isn’t to obtuse to food suppliers for folks to recognize a correlation. Think about your son or daughter, grandson or granddaughter back the on the flattop trying to cook to your satisfaction without you knowing it or under the welding hood trying to make a weld that meets the spec and some welding inspector is trying to tear your house down by being petty/picky with the spec over a spec of undercut or a customer going ape-chit about a missed order??? Make sure your reaction meets the severity of the conditions!

The only four things a manger of a restaurant require of their employees nowadays is:

1. Will you show up?
2. On time?
3. Sober?
4. And work the entire shift?

NONE OF THEM do a drug test. If they did they wouldn't hire anyone and would go broke paying for positive drug tests.

Fast food employees are not college grads nor do they get paid as such. These are people, who for the most part, did not graduate high school or made poor choices in life.

It is rare anyone WANTS to work at a fast food joint as these jobs are mostly entry level jobs. The vast majority of employees have little to no interest in promotion or getting a better job in life.

And the vast majority have a lower than average IQ and a lot have trouble with English and I include native born Americans in that group.

You get what you pay for when you go through the drive through. Check your bag AND your change before you leave the window.

If you dine in and the order is wrong, ask the waitress to repeat what you ordered so as not to offend as you may have made a mistake also.

And most importantly, DON'T punish the waitress with a lower tip if the order was not right. If it was brought to your table in a timely fashion with a smiling face, tell them you don't blame them. I do ask for a re-fire if the order is wrong. Especially if it is an expensive item. I know, I have probably gotten "extra" ingredients but I feel the correction needs to be made with the cook not reading the order correctly. But then we get to my reference of lots of employees having trouble with English and reading.

It all comes down to restaurants scrape the bottom of the barrel for good employees. Sad but true.

I've only complained at a restaurant twice in my life. Once I ordered a $45 ribeye to be grilled rare, showed up medium well, so I ended up leaving hungry when they didn't care to get me another steak.

The other time a sweetheart of a waitress accidentally spilled a hot plate of pasta on my lap when a toddler from another table tripped her, minor burns but I survived. Her manager ran over and proceeded to scream at her, so I got up and backed the little fellow into a corner so we could chat. I made him apologize and I was there chatting with his boss the next day.

Only two times I've complained. Other than that if orders are regularly messed up I just quit going.

The wife and I rarely will complain, a order has to be messed up pretty royally before we do.

Myself, if I get a screwed up order or the food is bad I just lock that info away in the memory and it just makes it harder for me to ever want to go there again.

if you get angry , it's your blood pressure going up not the waiters.
if you stew in it , it is your health that is effected not the cooks.
if you won't let it go , it's your sleep that is lost not the owners.

so mention stuff nicely , see if they fix it , be clear in what you are asking.
then let it go and if it was a bad experience don't go back looking for it to be better.

quit drinking the poison of anger and expecting the other person to get sick.

I'm pretty petty when it comes to food. I don't get nasty with the wait staff. I direct it towards the kitchen.
I once ordered a burger from Red Robin. I said well done. Meaning little too no pink. When it came out not only was it extremely pink in the middle, it was cold. I sent it back.
Next one came out pink and barely warm.
I asked for the manager. She went back and yelled at the cooks.

Ordered another one and stood there and watch them cook it. Here the cook fancied himself some sort of high priced chef and was going by the "feel test" on doneness. She told him they had thermometers for a reason, and if he didn't start using them she would fire him.

Next one came out was perfectly done.

McDonalds: Ours is horrible. I've had them screw up my order some many times it's nuts.

Order a bacon egg and cheese biscuit, and it come out as a sausage and cheese biscuit, and a whole host of other combos,
Last one I ordered a BEC biscuit and it came out as sausage egg and cheese. I didn't realize until I took a bite out of it.
I took it back up and said I ordered a BEC. The girl looked at it, shook her head, and wrapped it back up and put it in the warmer. Then handed me my correct item and walked in the back.

As she walked away the manager walked by and I told her she needed to check the first thing in the warmer. She opened and looked at me.
I told her what had happened. She went in the back and started screaming at the poor girl. As I walked to my car I saw the girl come out crying. My wife asked what happened and I said I think she got fired.

Last week I ordered just a burger. My wife ordered soup, sandwich, and coffee.
When our order came, mine was a burger and fries. I told the waitress I rarely ever eat fries and didn't want them. She looked at her slip and saw she didn't include fries on my order and said the cook must have added them. I wouldn't be charged for them. I never ate them.

My wife got her soup and sandwich, but no coffee. She asked about the coffee and was told they were making a fresh pot and they would bring it over when it was done. She never got the coffee. When we finished eating I went to pay the bill. The fries were taken off, but the coffee was still on the bill. I mentioned that my wife never got the coffee. She asked if my wife still wanted the coffee? She took it off the bill and said, "Sorry about that."

I can get pretty petty, hot food needs to be hot and cold food cold, only a few items I'd prefer not to eat and mostly just take them off no biggie. Don't bring the appetizer at the same time as my main course or salad with my steak because I will always ask for it early. We frequent 2 or 3 places and get to know the staff and always tip well, but they know I will send things back if they have major mistakes.

Realizing that this thread is a few days old but this instance just occurred. I made an order to F & T last week and they shipped it out USPS the same day which is a good thing! My order went from Alpena which is 151 mi NNE of me down to Grand Rapids which is 112 mi SSW of me. From there it went to Deeeetroit which is 131 mi SSE of me. From Deeeetroit my order went to Oscoda which is about 100 mi NNE of me and within a couple handfuls of miles from Alpena. My order will hopefully leave Oscoda sometime (been there 2 days) but it will have to leave and go S to Saginaw which is about 30 miles SSE of me before it comes to the Midland USPS Office and sent out for delivery.

My question is, am I being petty, or am I being picky, or should I just keep to my own reaction as just be plain PO’ed at a System that I can do nothing meaningful or constructive about???

I know some people who enjoy being petty/bossy when out to eat more than they enjoy the food. I can’t stand it. I have a few I won’t go out to eat with, ever.

as for the 3 in the video , shoot the first one coming over the counter and charge the other 2 with homicide or shoot them as well if they continue over the counter.

yes I get it was NYC and they would crucify you for doing that. so they did the right thing to just record it.

but it would make it stop happening if there were actually immediate consequences for bad actions.

The McDs issue has been ongoing for many, many years I even tried other states with the same results so it’s a training issue. Went to Stake and Shake in MO last week ordered a double burger plain. I finish ordering and then the local boyfriend club stopped in the mating rituals began I knew I was screwed.

Sure enough I get to the truck and it’s a cheese burger not what I ordered. I just ate it at least it wasn’t loaded with the other junk I don’t like.
