Working on food plots in MO last minute rush to get things planted forgot my work boots. I was the buffet this weekend chiggers and the tiniest ticks I’ve ever seen small freckle size beasts. We got her done in 3 days then it rained a bit probably not enough to kick things off yet.

Chiggers are the worst, and only things that ( bug wise ) bite me.
Their bites itch for days.

Those chiggers and ticks both literally and figuratively suck. I only got into chiggers once this year and haven't gone back there to get more. Ticks were worse than normal here early and virtually nonexistent for months now.

The tiny woods mosquitoes were terrible and are now just barely around.

Deer flies were fortunately sparse this year.

Stable flies were bad early on, but less common now.

Horse flies are sparse, but have got me twice recently.

That looks uncomfortable. Chiggers never bothered me for some reason. I would go through the same places dad did. He would have the chigger bites, and I had none. I must taste too nasty - lol

Be thankful for the small things, lol.

I remember reading about in a concentration camp where one group of women, which was a mix of Jewish and Christians, all had fleas. But their building was the only one. The women had a secret bible study and when they came across the verse that said to be thankful for all things, they found it hard to comprehend. How could they be thankful for fleas? It wasn't until later they found out that their building was the only one where the women weren't being molested by the guards. The reason being the fleas !

That time for chiggers and seed ticks... hate them both. Spray doesn't seem to work well for me on seed ticks.

We had ticks in the yard this spring more so than normal. I spread some granules and haven’t seen one in months since May.

I also wear long pants, calf high socks and work boots when going g to the farm. They have been treated with Permithin (sp?) several times. Knock on wood, haven’t picked off a single tick this year.

Must be all the possum.

We have them in our yard big time. I spray the areas we generally use with Cutter's hose end spray which seems to keep them in check for a while. When we get bites we use Equate roll-on Pain Relief Cream 4% Lidocaine Topical Analgesic from Walmart. It is found in the same area as other pain relief applications. It does relieve a lot of the itching and seems to make them go away a little faster.

Keep in mind they could very well be in your bedding as well. We had to do a laundry last night because of all the bites we got while working outside in one of the "Non-safe zones" I figured with the cooler weather they may have moved on but that was not the case.

Good luck! Mosquito bites don't even bother me or swell up but chigger bites can drive me nuts.

I used 2 sleeping bags when I was down there they are in the truck still will get washed today everything I wore down there went through the wash also when I got home, I’m being very pro active.

I spent a lot of time clearing brush smaller trees mostly for the food plots wearing stupid slip on shoes was the big issues but that’s all I had and we had a job to get done so we did it. It’s really not that bad most of the time but then it’s all out itchy diving me nuts until I freshen it up. One bite in particular is on the side foot bottom on the foot line it’s tough to work on for some reason.

I had the same problem when I was in the woods cutting buckthorn. So, I started wearing rubber knee boots. Sprayed them with permethrin. No problem since.

Back in my younger days, I was groundhog hunting out in a hayfield that had been baled. I fell asleep for at least an hour sitting behind a bale using it as a rifle rest.

That’s the worst I ever had chiggers. Had bites from my boot tops all the way up to my groin.

I never forgot that incident.

We don’t have seed ticks here, just deer ticks and dog ticks. They are bad enough.

Eh...wot?

Once you get them, a soak in the bath with s table spoon of bleach always helped me kill the little things and that eventually help with the itch. Rubbing alcohol after that to help dry up the bites

If you have any jewel weed growing near you, typically it is found around and along the water ways, streams and shade areas. It is very good for inch relief from poison oak, ivy and insect bites.

Those chiggers bites will go away in a month. I have had some itch relief by applying straight Clorox with a bath cloth.

You need saltwater Law Dog.....Discovered this years ago while vacationing in Destin, Florida.

Went down there covered like you in chiggers and a few tick bites...A couple days of short dips in the ocean cleared those bites up fast.

You bet, a couple epsom salt soaks for a few days would be ideal.

Supposedly, once you feel the chigger bites, they are usually gone. What itches is your bodies reaction to the chemicals they injected to make the walled of feeding tube they sucked your blood from. It can take 6 hours after feeding for the the chigger bites to be felt. I don't completely believe that because sometimes more bites show up a day or two later.

A few years ago, Diane got something on her in one of our barns, after laying on some newer hay. The bites looked like chigger bites, they were mostly where her clothes were tight, but there were hundreds. More bites kept appearing, even days later. I started getting bites on me. We both took Ivomec and no new bites appeared and the itching stopped in a couple of days. It's possible she got scabies mites or some other type of mite. Scabies mites burrow in your skin, live and lay eggs, that keep producing more mites.

I'm about 100 miles from where Law Dog was, and we have been dealing with the ticks all summer. But worse has become the wasps. They are everywhere. Just got stung again walking thru a barn and past an old lawn trailer. Mud dabbers and paper wasps. My sister got popped about 5 times by a bunch that had built a big nest on a rose bush in my mother's flower box. Right under dining room window.

But ticks have become no joke. Neighbor contracted that alpha gal thing from a tick bite a few years back. Now can't eat red meat of any kind or risks going into shock and croaking.

A few springs ago we had the verity pack of ticks during a spring Turkey hunt large medium and small sizes and plenty of them. This year it was just the tiny ones you have to do a double take when you spot one.

By the way, I've put Ivomec on some areas of weird skin growth from wounds and encysted thorns and the skin soon looks normal after a few applications, even on spots that are many years old. I have no idea why it works, but it does work. Does anyone know why Ivomec helps?

I just looked it up. Apparently Ivomec has been proven to heal wounds quickly in scientific tests.

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC7576857/

I had a lot of what I guess they would call granulations from animal scratches and thorns, picked up.from rabbit and bird hunting. Ivomec made the ones I put it on go away. I never knew that it's been actually used for that.

Me and my daughter are like that. She is a mosquito magnet and they dont bother me at all. She is very light skinned and I have a darker complexion is all I can figure. Ticks love me for some reason.

Itching and weeping has stopped my skins tight from all of the wounds drying up so that’s some progress will scrub with soap and water for a few days and go from there.

When you know that you are going to be amongst them, when you get home, put 50-50 mix of bleach and water then cover your entire body with it.
Once your skin starts tingling, take a hot shower. They will die. It kills seed ticks too.
It takes a while for those little buggers to settle down to inject you with their spit, which hardens into a tube so that they can suck your juices out of you.
The tube which they leave behind is where the week long itching comes from.
Chiggers are the nymph stage of a mite. Once they have a sip of you, they soon fall off. They don't burrow under your skin.
I'm sure the solvent in fingernail polish will ease the itching some.

Only place they have attacked me is an area of about 8 acres.
No problem anywhere else.
Hate them with a passion.
Pure rubbing alcohol applied when the itching starts , seemed to help.

When I was in the Army, they issued a runny cream that was sulfur based. It is the best defense against chiggers I have ever used. You had to apply before going to the field. I still have some to this day. Though I always forget to use it until too late. Chiggers are a torture device.
