Wondering about the usefulness of the trail cams in my life. We enjoy getting pictures of wildlife, especially young ones. But it doesn’t change the way we hunt or trap. Seems like there’s always an issue with one of them and we are changing batteries more often than I’d like. And they don’t always tell you there’s a problem until you realize you haven’t seen photos on one of them for a month or more.
Long story short, we need to do a firmware update.
I am not tech savvy so I called customer service. For a pre loaded SD card they want thirty dollars plus five bucks shipping.
So I’m gonna take it to the work computer today if possible and try to download the update to the SD myself.

My question is, do I need a brand new SD card or can I use the existing one??

Thanks in advance

If the sd card is corrupted, you will need a new one. I had SPYPOINT for a few years and it seemed like there was always something wrong with them. I recently switched to Moultrie edge 2 and no issues so far. Eric

I like Bushnell HD clam type cams I’m not seeing much options from Bushnell but the open bottom newer types I’m magazines unless you buy direct from them but they are spendy. I’ve got a bunch of old HD cams I purchased with my Cabelas points and some newer types so I’m good for now.

We just put out food plots and cams to see what’s around for the next 4-6 weeks. When I set up some of the old HD cams the default was 2018 so some are pretty old. It takes 1,000s of pics to get just a few useable ones unfortunately.

Ashley if you’re looking for a cell option the SPYPOINT takes decent pics and you get 100 free pics a month, and it stores the pics on a sd card. I keep mine up on the farm, after the 100 pics I just check my card to see what’s around. Pic of a buck yesterday evening on the back 40. Eric [Linked Image]

Thank you
I took everything with me to work in the hopes of maybe downloading the firmware update but I had not a moments peace. Maybe tomorrow during lunch break.
Makes me wanna get rid of the dang things. Like I said I don’t think it makes or breaks us, just pictures to look at.

I enjoy them, but do not depend on them for my hunting or trapping endeavors.

Same here. Wondering if the subscription is even worth it with all the trouble we have had

If you do use your old card, make sure that when you go to format it, you un click the checkmark that says quick format that will allow a long format. It may take 15 minutes, but your card will be completely refreshed at that point. Good luck.

Put the card in the computer and format it (make sure there is nothing on it you want AND do the long format, not the quick one)

Download the program/update and follow directions they provide for updating firmware.

I am computer illiterate and I managed to update the few of mine that needed it

I am sure you can do it wink

My Ridgetec cameras automatically do the firmware update thru the cell network. No messing around with downloading a file from any website and then going thru a maze of button pushing hoping the update works. There is no reason all cell cam companies cant simply provide updates thru the network.
