I dug up a few Buckeye trees form a Big Piney River sandbar and planted them here at home, and they're doing great! About 8' high. No fruit yet.

Not trying to be smart , but why plant buckeyes? Trees get huge , nuts are good for absolutely nothing . Around here , deer won't eat them at all , and squirrels , I've only ever seen one squirrel cut them , and that was because there was NO mast that year.

In this case, erosion control, and it's a neat looking tree.

I have a buckeye tree in my front yard, that I grew from seed. Buckeye nuts are worth pretty decent money, here near Ohio State. Fans make necklaces. It's not uncommon for buckeyes to sell for 50 cents to 1 dollar each. We sold around 30 buckeye seedling trees we planted by seed for $15.00 to $20.00 each, since July.

As a kid, we had two buckeye trees in the front yard.
It was strange, as one would bloom and have nuts one year, and the next year , the other would.
Used to be a favorite tree to find cicadas shells on.

Evidently you never had a slingshot when you were a minnow.

Squirrels like them here. And a buckeye in your pocket is a good luck charm.

We've planted some of the nuts throughout our timber to help offset the ash trees that we've lost. Once they start dropping, we have to hurry before the squirrels get all of them.

Seems to me that people confuse the buckeye with chestnut .
One way to tell the difference is , if it's buckeye you can pick up the nuts with your bare hands.
Chestnuts you better use welding gloves.
