Question: Has anyone killed a bunch of deer using a cheap crossbow broadhead? If so, which one?

Is it true that you have to pay $50 or you're not doing it right?

Background: I'm just getting into crossbow and broadheads seem stupidly expensive no matter how much money one may have, because you don't keep them forever.

My question is not about one's "favorite" broadhead, it is about winning.

Thank you.

They work great and are pretty low cost.

Muzzy 3 blade, replaceable tip and blades are still fairly cheap
If your crossbow is faster than 350fps you're going to want mechanical head's
I use G5 T3s. Their a one piece ferrel with replaceable blade's and retention clips
Make sure you buy for a crossbow and not a regular compound

I've had luck with the NAP Spitfires. I think they're like $30 for a 3 pack on Amazon.

They fly straight and leave big holes.

Make sure u buy ones that have a practice tip or try out a regular broad head. If u r gonna trust the writing on the package that it shoots like field points then don't bother shooting your bow and trust that its good from factory.
I have expendables for my wifes Xbow, just because the sharp part isn't exposed.
I like muzzy 4 blades for my compound. Never shot them in Xbow before. $45 for 6 pack

Heres the thing, buy magnus once, lifetime warranty as long as you have the old head. Not super expensive but deer die. Cant beat the warranty. No questions asked.

Why would anyone want a cheap broadhead? It's the business end of the arrow. Buy a sharp, good quality broadhead.

I've shot quite a few animals with Allen 3 blades bought at Walmart for $6 a 3 pack. I would take my compound and shoot them at 100 yards, anything that flew good went in one pile and anything that didn't went in another, the pile that flew good went for big game and the ones that didn't went for small game. Nothing complained about being shot with a $2 broadhead. The allens were a Muzzy copy I believe.

Becuse more cost does not mean it gets the job done any better. Killed my first several deer a young 14 year old with cheap Walmart terminator 125 gr heads. Killed them just as well as the more expensive heads I have used since.
I expect the bolt and head to be trash after going through a deer now. Even if not its not worth the risk of a small Crack or unseen problem in a bolt getting fired with all that energy right by my face and hands. so what is that now $20 + with each deer shot? So if I can save $5 and it shoots well im all for it

Here is a grim reaper x bow 100 gr head after passing through one of my sons deer. head shaft snaped on impact with the tree one blad embeded in the red bud and held the bolt inplace. I have had others break 2 bladed hitting heavy bone. But the damage is incredible. I expect the same lack of durability out of all mechanical.

In this case he was clearly asking about the best value. IE get the job done at the lowest cost.

I gave him that. It might not be the “lowest cost” but it has put a many deer in a freezer.

Those are nice and I looked at them when my boys were shooting low lb compounds for the cut on impact aspects.

I think You can get Muzzys in a 6 pack for less than a 3 pack of those and you can have a set of blades to practice and swap them out or just 3 practice heads and 3 for hunting.

I sent a lot of 100gr muzzy through deer never lost or brok a single blade. Not even one I made a bad call and shot a running deer hiting it through the pelvis busted through all that heavy bone and was devastating.

If I was looking for best value muzzy would be my first try to see if fixed blades heads would shoot out of my x bow.

Thunderheads may be a little cheaper but my cousin used to shoot them and they always require more tuning and would loose blades now and then in game and targets.

Disregard this if no time to "tinker".
For 400+ fps x bow I was told to learn the mechanicals
as I can not adjust the arrow rest for flight like on the compound.
I'm still going to try fixed just to see for myself.

I will add my personal preference is avoid 2 blade. 3 or more there is no way the hole can be pressed back together. Never thought about it untill I walked up on a deer a friend of a friend shot a good while before and it got up and took off. Had more than enough time to have been dead was not an easy tracking job. where it layed down had little blood whare it should have had a puddle.

I know people that swear by them but seeing that once on a good hit was enough to get me to avoid them. Maybe a case of they worked great untill they don't? maybe a one in a million happening?

I also went from a 2 blade to 3 blade because I felt the blood trails were better. At one point I was bow hunting 3 states a year and shooting quite a few big game animals.i never felt a 3 blade was worse than 2

I bought a 6 pack of broadheads on amazon for $12 a couple years ago. I shot 4 deer with them last year. A couple the year before.

I figure these cheap broadheads counter my unfair advantage from using a crossbow during "archery" season.

I shoot muzzy 100g three blades. They shoot like darts out of our ravins. I buy them in a six pack. Buy extra blades. You can reuse the tip and ferrel but the blades take a beating. The bolts pass through every deer I have hit and the blades seldom survive.

This 1000%. I believe Mike is the owners name. Talked to him on the phone multiple times and he's a good dude. Somebody had a thread on archerytalk years ago that was started by people saying it was terrible for people to use the warranty and take advantage of the company. He posted correcting those people and stating that was exactly what the warranty was for. I've shot deer with the stinger, black hornet, and now the single bevels with zero problems. He even sent me a replacement for a black hornet I screwed up the angle on trying to sharpen with the bleeder blade in which interfered with the blade guide.

I've went back to them in both the crossbow and vertical bows. They just get the job done the best of everything I've used.
