Down here in my neck of the woods the fall buck shuffle has begun. A couple weeks after most buck's velvet comes off they start moving around...leaving their summer range and visiting their rut range. Unless the habitat has undergone some dramatic changes like large scale clearcutting they return to the same areas as year b4. Im seeing it happening here right on schedule as always.

This buck spent most of September - January on about 200 acres of my place. I have no clue where he spends the summer, but last night he visited the same scrape location he used last fall. I just happened to already ha e a camera there.

He is a 4.5 year old now. His antlers last year were similar, but he has put on a few more pounds. He is one of the better bucks utilizing my place. But, there won't be much daytime activity until mid-October to early November.

For sure.

If I buy any more cell cameras...they'll be Tactacams. I like their app too.

Got more pics of Big8 early this morning. He hung around this particular area longer as I think it may be closer to his preferred daytime area. It's a logged over island down in the river bottom. Rough/thick in there since they logged it a couple years ago. Used to be pretty in there...white oaks, magnolias, swamp chestnuts, huge loblolly pines. Now, stump sprouts and river cane......and the Big 8 pointer...lol

…. If he doesn’t start messing up in daylight he’ll be hard to kill …. Only chance is to back track his trail close to his bed in that island and catch him getting up early…. And he won’t put up with too much of that

Exactly^^^

Its gonna be a delicate process with some luck involved. Best daylight movement here is usually early to mid-October.

He's currently where he spent all last fall and winter, so I think he's gonna be available to try to kill again. I didn't hunt him last season due to having access to another great property.

The last weekend of season last year (early January), while about 35 feet up a big pine in my Summit climber, I saw him right before dark. He came out into a clearcut about 120yds away with a couple other smaller bucks. I was doe hunting as I had already killed my 2 buck Ga limit earlier. He is lucky that I didn't revert back to my pre-GW mindset...lol. I was able to watch him for over 30 minutes feeding on sorrel out in the clearcut until it got too dark. A doe came out too, but I wasnt about to blast the 7mm-08 near him for a slickhead.

2025 archery opens next Saturday here (Sept 13th). Gonna have to go easy to keep him from skipping out.

There are about a dozen (or more) individual 8 pointers of various age/size utilizing my 400 acre tract this fall. I've never seen this many 8pts in one area....especially here and Ive had this property 25 years. Lots of bucks coming along for the future.

Its just corn, so those starving younguns wouldn't get much out of it

I have one of those corn spreaders that hooks onto the tailgate of my SxS so I just drive down the mowed logging roads and hit the switch.....like them Texas ranch folks do.

I do have a couple gravity type feeders (as the one in the pic), but Im gonna get rid of those or convert them to spinners due to CWD concerns.

Thanks JP! You too!

So far, that one bigger 8 is the only attention-getter I've seen and the only one I'll shoot. There are a couple more Ive got pics of that "might" get an arrow of the opportunity present itself, but probably will not shoot with a rifle.

Usually as October gets here there will be 1 or 2 more bigguns that show up. My place is on a river and rutting bucks move up and down that riverbottom corridor...we'll see.
