Seen this at the locker this morning lots of mass thick 3/4 of the way up. Impressive SD elk rifle prairie unit bull took him 20 years to draw a tag. I was taken back when he said rifle, the Black Hill opens the first of next month I never looked into the prairie units that much as I know a lot of the Hills areas.

Guy shot this one last week here in central Pa.

Nice bulls

First is a nice bull, congrats to him don't know the story about them having a draw, I'm spoiled here by seeing large bulls all the time, and have taken three very nice bulls in my life, and I don't hunt for antlers any more for my self for elk, have had enough fun working them beast's out of the rough country !!

Second bull is a very nice bull more length and width, with great tines and mixed antlers !

One just has to realize the potential there for what you are after, then put your mind towards the goal

Moose here is once in a lifetime for a bull, took me 27 years to draw for that, only took me 30 minutes to find the one I was happy with as well, which is always in the eye of the beholder, not those around him or her !!

Elk here is draw only the State Park tags once in a lifetime rifle and archery. 15 years is the magic number once you get a tag you have to wait 10 years to apply for a tag again outside the park.

Black Hills tags are draw also but it’s public hunting but limited numbers of tags for the elk available so it’s worth the wait. The prairie tags are in less popular parts of the west river areas but private lands often involved making it less popular. Some of the nicer elk come from the prairie units but I imagine getting permission 15 years ahead of time is challenging.

Success rates in my unit was around 50% for archery

Elk are on public in the prairie units, Custer national grasslands etc, up around buffalo.

Read it again! Never said theres not public in those units but nothing like the National Forest has public.
