Anyone ever fallen while climbing into stand while using a prussic knot safety rope. Results?

I didn't fall but about 4-5 feet. I slipped and fell at the same time. The knot saved me from falling any further. Hitting the metal strap on ladders will leave a mark for a while. I don't have them on all my stands. But on the taller one's I do for sure. It's remote enough up here in Alaska to have them on all your stands. I will be buying more of them. Buy the two pack, it's a little cheaper in the long run.

I loop mine about 1 foot over my head if standing in the tree stand. I added a piece of 550 cord to the bottom, so I can wrap the bottom around the tree and secure it. That keeps the rope just taught enough to move the Prussic knot up and down the rope easily. Otherwise you will fight the rope going up. I put the strap on ladders and the safety ropes on each stand the same. Trying to keep my system identical in each tree. A little safer.

My Super Wide will pull your broken down 4 stroke, up a hill backwards, with you on it!

I won’t go up in a tree. Two rungs up on any ladder and I shake.
You guys stay safe and spare no expense with your harnesses and such.

I sooooo...wish I had you in my FD. I worked with a new recruit , girl , about 22yo at the time. Her name is Britt. Just like you , could not stand more than a couple steps up a ladder. I took her under my wing for special extra instruction to be able to pass her Firefighter #1 certification practical knowledge test.

Here is were I got her in about 2 months.

It took a lot of one on one instruction. The old timers at the firehouse actually would sabotage/interfere with her training and I eventually took her to my house and other places to train with no one disrupting us.

I am so proud of her now. I saw something special in her , and I was right. She had a very hard time growing up , which I will not get into here , but it was very ,very tough. No one gave her anything to help her on her way. Just made life tougher for her.

She is doing extremely well for someone her age now. Very stable life , doing excellent financially by a HUGE amount for someone of her generation.

I'm sooooooo proud of her and very glad to have helped her on her way.

Coworker had the bottom of his stand collapse just as he stepped on. Hit the tree with his face. Scabbed up a little but better than paralyzed or worse. Father of two.

I saddle hunt now. Always tied to the tree. If I fall it won't be very far and ill just be sitting there. I would think if u use your rope correct while climbing into your stand u won't fall far. But if your ladder stand goes out and u r hanging from a rope how do you self recover?

No but I have spent years of my life hanging from a tree from a rope Using a prussic as my climbing knot on my rope. If your just running yout knot up a static line as you climb up the tree as you go you won't fall any further than your slack and attachment point. I expect you may get banged up hiting the tree, ladder or stand but you won't hit the ground.

You can die for circulation being cut off to your legs if you hang in a harness long enough so know how to use the nylon step strap on your harness so you can release the pressure while you are hanging.

Look up "Treestand Wingman" it's designed to work as an automatic descender in case of a fall. I have never used one but am considering buying one.

I'll check it out. But I use a figure 8 and rappel down.

I wouldn't think that Treestand Wingman would be very useful for a saddle hunter. I'm not very familiar with saddle hunting however. I think it's utility would be mainly for hang on and ladder stands.

Yeah it doesnt have much use for us saddle hunters since we dont fall far. When you dont fall far, you can still get back onto your stand or sticks. This thing is sending your to ground no matter what. Plus, you cant climb back up with it.

I have a HSS style safety rope that I use on all of my tree stands, have a lineman's setup for hanging and majority of time now I am in a saddle.

When I was younger and bulletproof I would climb like a squirrel and most of my setups were too sketchy to worry about anyone else trying to hunt my setup

Now I am tied off when my feet leave the ground

I use the HSS system static line on all of my stand locations. I slipped a couple years back and slid about 3 feet before the slack came out and the prussic knot did its job. I was able to easily regain footing and loosen the knot to continue climbing. Otherwise I would have been facing a 15' + fall and do not want to think of the result of that. I never go up a tree without being tied off from the moment i leave the ground. I was very fortunate to walk away from a fall 15 years ago.
