If you can manage to find the perfect size container 3 quarts of mix goes along ways.I’ve had mixed results on keeping mix.Letting it get to hot is not good either.

It's moee of an issue of what depth of paint you need in the container to submerge the trap in. Those 330s have a big hole in the middle not using up any paint. Obviously,1 gallon of paint makes 2 gallons of mix ( little less than 1/2 of a 5 gallon pail ). Just make sure that whatever container you use, the acetone doesn't attach it.

How much paint needed is going to depend on whether you single or double dip, the size of the footholds and how much patience and time you have (dipping single or gang dip).

Not to hijack the thread, but can you use gas instead of acetone? Eric

If we are talking about pump gasoline, I personally wouldn't for two reasons ... First is the 'additive packages' that each gasoline manufacture blend into their unleaded fuels and second is the mix of alcohol in unleaded fuel these days. Chemically the polarity of acetone and gasoline are opposites which affects how they combine, or not, with other materials on the molecular level.

Back in the day, before automotive unleaded fuel, you could purchase what was referred to as ' white gas ' which was, don't want to say ... Pure ... unleaded gasoline without any alterations at very select service stations. I can remember my dad going and getting a gallon at a time to use for stripping oil and grease off of engine parts he was tearing down and rebuilding.

I use latex outdoor paint thinned with water to dip/coat my kill poles. It really holds up well on them. I don't know why you'd use something that has to mixed with acetone and is a mess to clean up. The exterior latex paint cleans up with water.

when storing any liquid in containers-paint, dip mix, etc. I store the cans upside down, seems to last longer this way.
But first, it is a good idea to put them upside down in a container like a one gallon ice cream pail to make sure the lid is sealed and doesn't leak mad

used to dip auto parts many years ago. I used rustoleum paint. But I floated the paint on water so very little was req'd.
Had to be slow and easy on the dip and removal.
Can't recall if I thinned the paint, don't think so tho.

ADC, do you use the same ratio water:paint?

If adhesion is the same, I'd think latex would be alot easier to deal with.

I use about 2-3 parts paint to 1 part water. Kind of by feel... I never used the other paint but this stuff holds up great on my killpoles. I get it from Sherwin Williams in their mis tinted paints for $7/gallon and have them add whatever it needs to get it a darker camo color if I don't like the color it already is.

Good tip on the mis-tint. I'll ask at the local paint place.
